ORTIZ, ELAUTERIO "LARRY" On Saturday July 27, 2013, we lost our beloved husband, our father, grandfather and our mentor. Elauterio "Larry" Ortiz went to heaven to be with our Lord after a 23-year battle with Parkinson's. Larry was preceded in death by his parents Ismael and Miquela Ortiz, as well as his siblings Alfonso, Erma, Jay (Ismael) and Julia. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ida; and son Leonard, wife Rebecca, and their daughter Claire; and son Rico, wife Angela, and their daughters Miquela and Marisa. Larry was born in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, in 1935 where he grew up and met his future wife Ida. After his high school graduation, he joined the United States Air Force. While serving in the Air Force, Larry and Ida were married in 1958. After four years of distinguished service in the air force, he was honorably discharged. After a brief stop in California, Larry and his family moved back to Albuquerque where he began working for various agencies in the United States Government. While working, he attended the University of New Mexico, where he attained a B.A. in Architecture and graduated Cum Laude in 1976. After 30 years of dedicated service, he retired in 1990 from the U.S. Department of Energy, Albuquerque Field Office. Larry touched many lives in his 78 years, whether through work, involvement in the Knights of Columbus, as a baseball coach or as a neighbor or friend always offering a helping hand. He was always a strong role model and well respected by his family, many relatives and friends who looked up to him as a mentor and trusted friend. Most importantly, he believed in God and family and was a devout family man, always putting God and his family first. Though he will be greatly missed for his many contributions, strength, and admirable qualities, we all gain comfort in knowing that his spirit is with the Lord and has been freed from the horrible disease that imprisoned him in his body for so many years. Larry, we love you and we will miss you everyday of our lives. We will carry your love and your spirit in our hearts until we join you again. The family will be holding a private service in honor of Larry's life. In lieu of flowers please make donations in the name of Larry Ortiz, to the American Parkinson's Disease Association at www.nmapda.org. If you wish to send condolences to the family, please send your messages to Emelly Torres at the Riverside Funeral home at Etorresrfh@yahoo.com
