YOUNG, CHARLES ALLEN a resident of Albuquerque, NM, since 1975, passed away January 15, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. He was born August 14, 1936, in Tekamah, Nebraska to Edward Morris and Lydia C. (Bixby) Young. Allen grew up in West Point, Nebraska, and graduated from West Point High School. He served in the Navy as a radar technician in the European theater during the Korean War. He then went to and graduated from the University of Arizona on the GI Bill. He married fellow U of A graduate Nancy Jeanne Peck from Urbana, Illinois, on June 1, 1961. In 1965 he returned to the Navy as an intelligence officer and served for ten more years during the Vietnam War. Upon leaving the Navy, Allen and Nancy moved to Albuquerque where Allen received his MS Degree & taught Computer Science at TV-I for 12 years. After retiring Allen continued his ongoing interest in the art community. He worked as a wood carver for many years before turning to the ancient medium of encaustic. Allen and Nancy collaborated for many years on art projects as well as maintaining separate artistic careers. For over twenty years Allen showed his work in several galleries throughout the Southwest. Allen's dry sense of humor and ready jokes were his trademarks. He was a kind and gentle soul who always had a good and encouraging word for everyone. His helping hand was always ready for those who needed one. Allen is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy; his son Michael Allen Young, wife Irina, and granddaughter Mila Lydia, all of Maui, Hawaii. At his request, Allen was cremated and private family services are planned at a later date.
