CHANIN, MILDRED MAXINE PERELMAN was born on September 23, 1921 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away surrounded by family on October 16, 2012 in Albuquerque. Mildred and her husband, Abe, who had resided for approximately seven decades in Tucson, Arizona, relocated to Albuquerque almost ten years ago to be closer to their daughter Beth and son-in-law, Dr. Lance Rudolph. Mildred moved to Tucson with her father, Abe Perelman, while she was still in high school and there she met her future husband, Abe Chanin. She graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Speech and briefly taught at the Cerebral Palsy Clinic. She married Abe after he returned from World War II and completed his BA in Journalism at the University of Arizona. Mildred not only taught Hebrew after-school, tutored students in Hebrew studies, developed Jewish early childhood programs, but also assisted her husband in organizing and operating The Arizona Post, Tucson's newspaper for the Jewish community, and Collegiate Baseball, a national publication. In later years, she was his helpmate in writing and editing multiple publications on both sports and southwest Jewish history. Mildred also traveled and lectured on Jewish history with Abe in their later years. And through all that time she was active in Hadassah and other Jewish causes. Somehow she managed all these roles as well as being a mother and chauffer to Beth. She also found the time to take many other young people under her wing, providing advice and many types of support. She is survived by her husband Abraham S. Chanin; daughter Beth Rudolph and son-in-law Dr. Lance Rudolph; grandson Sean Rudolph and wife Anna Jancewicz and son Jona Jancewicz; and nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, friends, and wonderful caretakers and medical personnel who helped her through the last difficult years. Special thanks to Mary Wezelman and Patricia Ramczyk who provided daily support in very unique ways. Burial has taken place at Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family asks that anyone wishing to make a contribution in honor of Mildred donate online to www.jfsnm.org <http://www.jfsnm.org> or mail to Jewish Family Service, 5200 Wyoming NE, Suite 200, ABQ, NM 87109.
