HUBBARD, LD 1915 - 2012 age 97 passed away on November 2, 2012. Graveside services will be held in the Santa Fe National Cemetery on November 9, 2012 at 9 AM. He was born to Marion and Ila Hubbard in Duncanville Alabama. He has been preceded in death by his wife Jewell L. Hubbard, his mother, father, and brother, Everet C. Hubbard. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Azzalee G. Hayes, of Albuquerque; nieces, Betty Sue Doss of Cottondale, Al, Carol Lynn Morrison of Duncanville, Alabama, Susan Compton of Los Lunas, NM, nephew Doyle G Hayes of Albuquerque, NM; and granddaughter, Rebecca Montano of Deming, NM. He enlisted in the US Navy on November 12, 1935 and retired on Sept 1, 1955 from Norfolk Virginia on the USS Mississippi. His last duty station was the US Naval Ordinance Missile Test Facility at White Sands Missile Range from 1951 to 1954. While he was stationed at White Sands Missile Range, he met and married Jewell L Gee. He served on two ships during WWII, the USS Cincinnati and the USS Proteus based out of San Diego and San Francisco. He attained the rank of Torpedo Mate Chief on April 2, 1948 and retired at that rank. He began work at Sandia National Laboratories on May 7, 1956 and retired in 1978. He operated the underground centrifuge. He was particularly proud of the work he performed for NASA and the space mission. He had a wry sense of humor, remarking one day when caught in a traffic jam, that there sure were a lot of cars and that he sure was glad that about half of them were parked!!! He was a quiet gentle person, who put family above self from the time he was just a young man in the Navy to the time he cared for his wife during her last years. Protestants believe that saints refer to all believers in Christ. L.D. Hubbard is a saint. He is at peace. Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Los Lunas Chapel, (505)866-9992, 2211-D Main St., where an online guest register is available at www.noblinfuneralservice.com
