WEBSTER -- THOMAS JOHN Passed into eternal life on July 19, 2012, at his home in Las Cruces, NM. Tom was a loving father, a son and brother who shared a close-knit relationship with his family, a joyful, loving, compassionate partner, and a cherished friend. Tom was born on February 18, 1958, and raised in Albuquerque by Donald and Alice Webster. Don and Alice raised their sons with a sense of adventure, exploration, and a love of the outdoors. At the age of eleven, Tom acquired his first hawk as a falconer and eventually became a life-long licensed falconer. Tom also enjoyed gun sports and shared his skill with his sons. Tom's sons, Aaron and Corey, were an incredible source of pride for him. Aaron and Corey shared in the interesting life Tom and his wife, Mary Beth Worley, cultivated around their love of exploring and camping. With Tom's VW van loaded with camping equipment, they explored the streams and forests of New Mexico and the beaches of Mexico. And he looked forward to sharing these adventures with his only grandchild, Gemma. Tom moved to Las Cruces in 1976 to study education at New Mexico State University. He became a life-long educator and taught for the Las Cruces Public Schools for 21 years. He was proud that he started his teaching career at the Court Youth Center and enjoyed his junior high students. Tom's 17 years with the district's EXCEL Career Exploration program enriched his life and the lives of countless students. He especially enjoyed hearing from former students and celebrating their successes. In December, 2010, Tom earned a Master's of Social Work, and in 2011, he began his second career as a clinician on the Recovery Unit at Mesilla Valley Hospital. He was loved and highly respected by the staff and patients. Tom was committed to helping others in their recovery and the patients at MVH often requested that their sessions be with him. Tom is survived by his former wife and life-long friend Mary Elizabeth Worley of Las Cruces; father Donald Robinson Webster of Elephant Butte; sons Aaron Thomas Webster of Albuquerque, and Corey Morgan Webster and wife Lorraine of Las Cruces; brother Daniel Joseph Webster of Albuquerque; granddaughter Gemma Elizabeth Webster of Las Cruces; niece Rainbow Hursa-Webster; nephew Taylor Hursa-Webster; aunt Margaret "Peggy" Boyce of Saugatuck, MI; and uncle David Webster of Fort Sheldon, MI. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Alexandria Dymtro Webster, and fathers-in-law John Petersen and Ronnie I. Worley. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 27 at 6:00 p.m. at La Paz-Graham's Funeral Home, 555 W. Amador Ave., Las Cruces, NM.
