CONTRERAS -- ALFONSO J. SR. Msgt. NMANG, retired, was born in Albuquerque on September 19, 1930 and passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. Alfonso proudly served his country in the NMANG 150th Tactical Fighter Group, 188th Fighter Bomber Squadron, retiring in 1986 and was an active member of American Legend Post #72. He then decided to drive the transportation bus for the office of Senior Affairs, with the City of ABQ., where he thoroughly enjoyed helping others with their appointments. Alfonso retired on December 31, 1997. His passion was watching the Green Bay Packers football, traveling and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufino and Aniceta Contreras, Bentura and Ruth Ann Castillo; his beloved wife of 59 years, Rose S. Contreras; four children, Alfonso Jr., Anthony, Steven and Yolanda Contreras. He is survived by his five children, Richard Contreras, Lorraine Anaya and husband James, Michelle Contreras, Susan Contreras and Brian Contreras; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several siblings, family and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Rd. NW. ABQ., on Thursday, July 19, 2012. A Rosary will be recited at 10:15am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:15pm. with US Air Force/Army National Guard Honors.
