CHAVEZ -- TOMAS LEROY Age 70, of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, May 2, 2012. He was born to the Tomas and Victoria Chavez, March 11, 1942, in Santa Fe, NM. Tomas served as a United States Marine from 1964 until 1970 and was discharged in 1970 at the Rank of Sergeant. Tomas lived in Albuquerque, with his daughter and caregiver Donna Chavez. Tomas was preceded in death by his father, Tomas R. Chavez; brothers, Manuel Chavez and Victor Chavez; sister, Maria Casias; nephew, Larry Des Jarlais. Tomas was a Sheet Metal Worker with the Local Union 49 until he retired in 2001 and was passionate about Local 49 and its continued prosperity for his fellow union brothers. He was elected to many positions within Local 49 and respected the trust bestowed upon him. Tomas is survived by two children, Donna Jo Chavez, of Albuquerque and Christopher Chavez and his wife, Bridgitte Chavez, of San Antonio; and three grandchildren. He also is survived by his mother, Victoria Chavez; sister, Georgia Des Jarlais and her husband, Larry Des Jarlais; brother, Raphael Chavez and partner, Rose; sister, Mary Ann Nothwang and her husband, Troy Nothwang; brother, Ray Chavez; brother, Lupe Chavez and his wife, Mary Ellen Chavez; and several nieces and nephews.
