HUGHES -- DOROTHY PAULINE (MATTHEWS) Age 87, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Dorothy was born June 21, 1924 in Miami, Oklahoma to Bruce and Ethyl Matthews. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine and sons, David and Allyn Hughes. Her husband, Edgar D. Hughes (1921-2008), preceded Dorothy in death. She was a member of The American Lung Association, New Mexico Quilters Association and the Silver City # 3, Order of the Eastern Star. Dorothy was an RN with the Veterans Administration Hospital at Ft. Bayard, NM until its closing in 1965 and then at Albuquerque until she retired in 1981. She loved quilting, had a remarkable talent for combining colors and a great skill for sewing and piecing the many beautiful quilts she created. Cremation and private services have taken place. The family requests that you celebrate her life in a manner of your choice. Memorial contributions may be made to Animal Humane of Albuquerque, 615 Virginia St SE, 87108, or Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice, 8300 Constitution Pl NE, 87110.
