LOWERY -- ROBERT beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on March 1, 2012. Bob was born on July 26, 1926 in Springfield, Illinois to Thomas E. and Edna Lowery. After high school Bob served honorably in the United States Navy until 1946. After his service and when he was in Chicago he met our mother when they worked together at the University of Illinois Research and Educational Hospital. Bob and Alberta were married September 4, 1949 in Denison, Iowa. They lived in Chicago while he completed his education at the Illinois Institute of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. Bob accepted a position in the Nuclear Weapons Program with Sandia National Laboratory and with Alberta moved to Albuquerque in 1952. After a dedicated career of nearly 35 years Bob retired from Sandia Labs in 1987. Bob was a Civil and Electrical Professional Engineer registered in the State of New Mexico for nearly 40 years. Bob was a true handyman and there was nothing he could not build or repair, after careful engineering and documentation of course. Bob had many neighborhood friends and could often be found under the hood of a car even with his poor vision. Bob is survived by his four children, Charles R. Lowery and wife Laura of Albuquerque, Ruth A. Lowery-Ross and partner Janeice of Sandia Park, David C. Lowery and wife Michelle of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Phyllis J. Marcum of La Mirada, California. He is also survived by seven wonderful grandchildren, Meghan Finger and Mitchell Lowery; Krista and Lukas Lowery-Ross; Maile and Jessie Marcum and Tristan Lowery as well as two loving step-grandchildren Michael and Christopher Longo. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 45 years and mother of their four children, Alberta in 1994; parents Thomas E. and Edna; two sisters Dorothy Ann (Dan) and Nancy Jean and his brother Tommy. Our dad was a big supporter of PBS and KNME and listened regularly to his favorites. Dad was under the exceptional care of the staff at the residential home for seniors, Hilldale House, and met new friends with the residents. We are forever grateful for their tender loving care. Dad loved music and attended all of the activities provided at the home and played his piano for the residents and staff. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Hospice De La Luz and the entire staff for their wonderful care for our dad. Private services will be held in front of the Sunset Reflection at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Please visit www.RememberTheirStory.com for information regarding the open house.
