REYNER -- SUSAN REID Age 69, a resident of Albuquerque passed away at her home on November 27, 2011 with her life partner Jeanette Rich by her side. She is survived by her brother Steven William Reyner, her sister-in-law Jeanette Mary Reyner, her nephews David Scott Reyner and William Gene Reyner, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents George Miller Reyner and Flossie Marcella Nelson Reyner. Dr. Reyner was born in Rapid City, South Dakota and grew up in Mitchell, South Dakota. She graduated from Mitchell High School, earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Denver, a master's degree from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.d. in American Studies from Yale University. Her dissertation was entitled "Through the looking Glass: a History of Anglo-American Attitudes towards Spanish Americans and Indians of New Mexico." Susan served in the Peace Corps in Bolivia and was awarded Fulbright Fellowships to both Alexandria, Egypt and Santiago de Compo Stela, Spain. In addition, she taught English at Zheng Zhow University in China, the Hampton Institute in Virginia, and the United World College. In recent years, she has held administrative and teaching positions at the College of Santa Fe, Central New Mexico Community College and the University of New Mexico Extended University at Kirtland Air Force Base. She especially enjoyed nature, becoming a Master Gardener, avid hiker, and camper. In addition, Dr. Reyner was a gifted writer and animal lover who enjoyed classical music. A celebration of her life will take place at the Riverside Funeral Home at 225 San Mateo Boulevard NE on December 3, 2011 at 10:00 AM.
