SMITH -- ALAN L. 1930-2011 Age 81, a resident of Belen, passed away on October 5,2011. He was a Locomotive Engineer with the Santa Fe Railroad for 33 years. Alan was born to Mable and John Smith in Santa Rita, NM, grew up in Amarillo, TX where he graduated high school, and attended college in both Amarillo and Lubbock, TX. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bosque Farms. Alan was a private pilot, and he loved animals and children. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Alan is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Smith; daughter, Debbie Hamey and husband Roy of Liberal, KS; daughter, Sheila Kilgore and husband Ken of Liberal, KS; two grandchildren, Kenny Kilgore and wife Kacie, and Josh Haney; one great-grandson, Luke Alan Kilgore; brother John W. Smith of Dallas, TX; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel with Pastor Sid West officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Terrace Grove Cemetery. The family would like to thank Ambercare Home Health and Hospice for the care given and neighbors, Tia and Kristie. In lieu of flowers please contribute to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
