NEEL -- ELLIS (DEAN) Age 101, passed away September 6, 2011. She was born in Bessie, Texas on May 29, 1910, the daughter of Charley and Katie (Johnson) Dean. Ellis moved with her family to Lincoln County, NM in 1911 where her father Charley had a cattle ranch. The Dean family settled in the Estancia Valley area in 1925. After graduating from Albuquerque High School in 1927 Ellis attended Secretarial School. After completing her studies she began working for the Keleher Law Firm where she remained a devoted employee and friend for forty-nine years. Ellis always had a sense of adventure. She enjoyed traveling to Australia, New Zealand, the Scandinavian countries, Russia and cruised through the Panama Canal where she rode a horse in the rain forest. But, her trip of a lifetime was to Africa when she was 87 years old. She very much enjoyed being with friends and family, playing games until early morning, rooting for the Dallas Cowboys, riding horses and eating New Mexico green chili. She loved to go to her cabin in Questa, NM that she and her husband Bud built in the 1950's. There she could take hikes in the mountains to enjoy the birds and flowers, have covered dish dinners with friends up the canyon or see the beautiful aspens in the fall. Ellis and her late husband Bud were active in the Shrine Mounted Patrol and worked hard for the Shriners Hospital for Children. She received a life membership in the Daughters of the Nile where she held many offices. She had been a member of the Nile Patrol and Alhydaiya and was active in the Shrine Honored Ladies and the Masonic Widows Club of Temple Lodge #6. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. She was preceded in death by her wonderful and loving husband Bud and her brothers Bruce and Crile Dean. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Bertha Dean of Albuquerque, NM and Zelda Dean of Pamona, CA; plus many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank everyone at the Cottages and Hospice De La Luz for their wonderful love and care during these past two and a half years. In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to the Shrine Transportation Fund, 6000 Zuni SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108 or NM Boys and Girls Ranches, P.O.
