CAMPBELL -- JOAQUIN S. "JAKE" 90, of N. Edwards, CA, passed away August 31, 2011, in Bakersfield, CA. He lived in the Antelope Valley for 57 years. He was born July 22, 1921, in Abo, NM. He graduated from Mountainaire High School. He proudly served in the U.S Army during WWII, and was in eight major battles, including the D-day invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge, the Battle at Saint Lo, and he helped liberate prisoners of two concentration camps, including Auschwitz. He was a Logistics Manager, USAF civil servant, Edwards AFB, AFRPL. His hobbies included fishing, guitar playing, horseback riding and woodworking. He was also an active supporter of children's organizations and Barlow Respiratory Hospital. He was a beloved dad, grandfather and great-grandfather (Tata). He is now joined together in heaven with the true love of his life, his wife Paula; his beloved oldest daughter, Jo Cole; his parents, Martin and Vivanita; and his brothers, George and Victor. Survivors include a son, Andrew B. (and Pam) Campbell; a daughter, Mary Campbell; five grandchildren, Christopher (and Stephanie) Cole, Brad (and Michelle) Campbell, Jesseca (and Morgan) Hallows, and Jacqueline and Samantha Campbell; great-grandchildren, Zack, Haylee and Tyler Campbell, Joaquin Cole and Daxton Hallows; a brother, Martin Campbell; sister-in-law, Sarah Campbell, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011, at 11:00 AM, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, in California City, CA. There will be an hour of visitation time held at the church, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial in California City Memorial Park.
