PAONE -- KAREN BABB Age 62, died peacefully on Monday, August 8, 2010, in Albuquerque, NM from complications of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Born in Lafayette, IN, Karen graduated from Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, and completed graduate study at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Thoroughly unimpressed with the financial potential of a life in music or theater, Karen elected to focus her energy on a career in business. While somewhat less entertaining, her career switch was quite successful. She worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico for 20 years and retired as Vice President of Planning and Administration. Karen then spent ten years heading her own successful consulting firm, Paone & Associates, LLC. Karen continued to perform in community theater throughout her life, most recently playing the role of Ouiser in Albuquerque Little Theater's 2011 production of Steel Magnolias. She also became quite active in dog training. Karen's German Shepherds - Mimi and Senex - trained her to pay unending training and show fees for dog obedience, rally, agility, and sheep herding. The dogs received numerous titles. Karen, however, did not. Karen was pre-deceased by her husband, Joe Paone, and father, Forrest Babb. She is survived by her mother, Ada Babb; brother, Skipp Babb; children, Beth Fuller and Nick Paone; granddaughter, Emma Fuller; dogs, Mimi and Senex; cat, Figaro; dozens of beloved friends and extended family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Karen at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2011, at French Mortuary, located at 10500 Lomas Blvd NE in Albuquerque, NM. A Reception will follow at Albuquerque Little Theater, 224 San Pasquale Ave. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the New Mexico Leukemia Lymphoma Society.
