REDMAN -- NORMA JEAN Daughter of Clifton and Rowena Roberts passed away peacefully at Kingston Residence in Santa Fe. Norma was born in Kansas City, KS. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, John D. Rogers and Leslie M. Redman; her step-daughter, Griselle Kewish. She is survived by siblings, Jo Ann Allegre and Jack Roberts; three children, Constance and husband Charles Slocomb, James (Rogers) and wife Yvonne, Darrel (Rogers) and wife Cheryl; a step-daughter, Averill Redman; three grandchildren, Jenine (Slocomb) Clevenger and her husband Doug, Rachel (Rogers) and her husband Tom White, Lisa Slocomb, and Wendy (Kewish) Vanderham; great-grandchildren, Sofia Slocomb, Charlie Clevenger, and Isabelle Katherine White and Justin and Ryan Vanderham. Norma worked at the Weekly Reader in Columbus, OH to support her family and her husband in gaining a degree. The family moved to Los Alamos in 1951 where John had been recruited to work during the war as a technician. Norma was entranced by the outdoors and loved the mountains, the mesas, the small streams, and the clean smell of the air. When she was outdoors, Norma was often heard exuberantly singing tunes from light-operas. She was teased by her friends for her deep, contralto voice. Bandelier, Camp May, and the Jemez Mountains were her backyard playgrounds where the family often skied, hiked, fished and picnicked. Norma was athletic and an accomplished tennis player always chosen in the first round when deciding partners for "mixed up doubles" matches in Los Alamos. She was blessed with beauty and a delightful humor that made her a favorite in bridge clubs and The League of Women Voters. She was fond of children and worked as an aide at Pueblo Junior High and Mountain Elementary School for several years. She made Los Alamos a home for many happy years. In 1978, Norma married Leslie M. Redman a LANL scientist who lived in Nambe. Les and she had 24 loving years together. Leslie was known for his generosity, love of dogs and photographic memory. They moved briefly back to Los Alamos but first Les' ill-health and then Norma's physical decline required full-time assisted living available then only in Santa Fe. Until her death Norma's spontaneous wit, her warmth and personal touch endeared her to many friends. Norma asked to be interred near her parents in Lebo, Kansas. Norma was the loving and affectionate center for her family and will be fondly remembered and loved forever. A private remembrance will be held in Kansas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please give memorial donations in Norma's name to Friends of Bandelier, or to Los Amigos de Valle Caldera, or to the charity of your choice.
