SLATER -- Harold W. Slater, 72, was born in Kansas to H. Floyd and Marie Whittaker Slater and died March 6, 2011 in Albuquerque. Harold is survived by his wife of 38 years Karen; special cat Spook; and his friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Karen Carol Pruitt. Mr. Slater graduated from Wichita St University with a degree in Psychology. He moved to Colorado to train and then work as an assistant director of social welfare for Adams County. After 10 years he returned to Kansas where his interest in the outdoors led him to become a nurseryman later starting his own tree growing nursery. While in Kansas he reacquainted with a friend from college days, Karen, and they were married. He and Karen moved to Albuquerque in 1995 following his retirement from the nursery business and where Karen taught school at West Mesa High School. A memorial gathering will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011, at French - Lomas location.
