SADLER -- Rudolph Charles Sadler, 94, of Albuquerque passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 26, 2011. He is survived by Jane Randolph Sadler, his wife of 32 years; stepdaughter, Joan Hanson and her husband, Lee; and stepson, Frederic Cook; He was also blessed with five granddaughters and five great-grandchildren. Rudy was born on May 22, 1916, in Limerick, Maine and, following his graduation from the University of Maine at Bangor with a B.A. in electrical engineering, he went to work at General Electric Aviation in Lynne Massachusetts, where he was involved in the production of the first jet engines flown in World War II. Enlisting in the Army in 1942, Rudy was a staff sergeant assigned to the Army Air Transport Command. After a year at Hickam Field, Hawaii, he was deployed to an aircraft maintenance base in Fiji until the end of the war. In 1947 Rudy and his former wife Eleanor moved to Albuquerque, and was employed at Sandia Laboratories until his retirement in 1978. They lived in Corrales, where he built an adobe home, all of which he built himself, except for making the bricks. Rudy was chairman of the Village Council of Corrales, immediately prior to its incorporation in 1971. In December 1979 Rudy met Jane, and they were married the following March. They lived in their home in Paradise Hills for 27 years, when they moved to the Montebello Retirement Community. They are currently members of Sandia Presbyterian Church. Rudy was the last survivor of his family. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Eleanor Plumer Sadler; his stepson, Randolph Bell; and his stepdaughter, Nancy Boyce. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at Sandia Presbyterian Church, 10704 Paseo del Norte NE.
