OCCHIPINTI -- Jorge "Pino" Occhipinti, 89, died January 7, 2011. Pino was born on January 5, 1922 in Ragusa, Sicily. He immigrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina when he was three years old with parents, Carmen Barone and Jose Occhipinti and his brother Jose. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Edola Monaco de Occhipinti; He was also preceded in death by several relatives in Buenos Aires and New Jersey. He was a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1992. His first job was selling flowers with cousins when he was young. He worked at Olivero y Cia factory in the shoe industry for 25 years, riding his bike to work each day. There he met Edola the love of his life. When the factory burned down he worked as a movie theatre usher and then as a carpenter for Alvarez & Sons. He received awards for perfect attendance and outstanding work throughout his career. Jorge completed several hundred hours of English as a Second Language courses at TV-I/CNM. There he received many certificates for perfect attendance and excellent work. He was loved by his teachers and peers. He was an amazing and creative cook much to family and friend's delight. Soccer was one of Pino's passions. As a young man he played in the minor leagues for Velez Sarfield. He enjoyed watching soccer games with his grandsons. He was energetic and spunky well into his golden years. Jorge is survived by his daughter Ana Maria Occhipinti de Dolan; his grandchildren, Carla, Frank, and Matthew Dolan, and Stephanie Levine who he considered his granddaughter; He also leaves behind relatives in Buenos Aires and on the East Coast; He will be missed by many wonderful neighbors and friends in Don Torcuato, Argentina and Albuquerque. A Memorial Mass will be held in his honor at John XXIII Catholic Community on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., 4831 Tramway Ridge Dr. N.E. Albuquerque, NM 87111.
