APODACA -- Carlos Apodaca was born on February 13, 1949 and passed away on January 6th, 2011 at St Joseph's Hospital after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He worked for Yellow Freight for 23 years and was a wonderful Christian man. He was survived by his wife Mary Apodaca; four daughter; two brothers; two sisters; and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father Cloro Veo Apodaca; his mother Martha Apodaca; his sister Virginia Apodaca King; and his daughter Charlotte Apodaca. He was a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran and a Proud Marine. There will be a service held on Thursday January 13, 2011 at Christian Life Fellowship 121 Siringo Road, Santa Fe, NM at 1:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at the National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m., in Santa Fe, NM. Pastor Steven Long will be officiating. Carlos will be greatly missed by many family members and friends. Semper Fi Marine!

BARGAS -- Mary S. Bargas, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, January 8, 2011. She is survived by her children, Ramona James and husband, Billy of Clovis, NM, Margaret Romero and husband, Pete, of Albuquerque, and Anthony Bargas and wife, Dianna of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Judith James, Richard Romero and wife, Marcia, Gary Romero and wife, Melissa, Michelle Anaya and husband, Alfred, Martin Bargas and wife, Vanessa, Robert Bargas, and John Bargas; 12 great-grandchildren and one on the way; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Delia Jaramillo; and numerous other relatives and friends. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Bargas; one grandson, Michael Bargas; three great-grandsons, Gary Peter Romero, Jr., Israel Anaya, and Isidro Anaya; five brothers, Louie, Joe, Herman, Phil, and Gorman Sanchez; and three sisters, Della Heard, Mercedes Sandoval, and Connie Sanchez. She was born in Jarales, NM to Teofilo and Margarita Gallegos Sanchez and graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in Albuquerque. After graduation she attended Albuquerque Business School. Mary worked for Baldridge Lumber as a bookkeeper for several years and also for Collette's Flower Shop. She was a long time member of the Golden Agers and Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and sister and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be held at French ~ Wyoming Chapel, Thursday, January 13, 2011, 7:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Friday, January 14, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. BOTSFORD -- Margaret LaRue (Burkett) Botsford, 92, passed away January 7, 2011 in the NM State Veteran's Home. She was born September 16, 1918 to Harry W. and Jemima Burkett in South Mahoning Township, Indiana County, Pa. and married Alex Botsford September 12, 1939. Friends called her Peg. She was preceded in death by her daughter Susan Curtis and is survived by her husband, Alex of Truth or Consequences; sons, Jim (Abby) of Sandia Park, Charles of CA; and granddaughters, Deborah Owens of AZ, Denise Fleming and Pauline Gorman both of CO, Nicole Mestas of Albuquerque; and a sister, Marion Mumford of PA. She was an Eastern Star Worthy Grand Matron, active in United Methodist Women, a member of the Methodist Church in Truth or Consequences and a previous member of the First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque. She was a prolific writer of poetry and short stories and played the organ and piano at any and all functions when asked. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 15, 2011 at 2:00 p.m., at the NM State Veterans Home in Truth or Consequences with the Eastern Star members giving a memorial. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the First United Methodist Church in TorC. There will be no graveside services.

CANADA -- Lowrane W. Canada, 88 passed away on January 8, 2011 at her home in Rio Rancho, NM. Lowrane is survived by her two daughters, Priscilla Drummond and her husband David, of Albuquerque and Pamela Hoge and her husband John of Vancouver, WA; as well as three stepchildren, Dick,Mike and Judy Canada and their spouses; Lowrane had three grandchildren; and five great-grand children; as well as seven stepgrand children; and 20 stepgreat-grand children. She was "Nana Cee" to all of them. She was a member of Riverside Church of Christ and an active bowler until she was 83. The family would like to thank Total Community Care and the numerous caregivers at Sandia Springs Assisted Living for the dignity, care and love that was provided to Lowrane during her final illness. Services will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Animal Humane Association, Lowrane's favorite charity. CROUCH -- JAMES R. CROUCH, 81, of Lahaina, Hawaii/Las Cruces, New Mexico died on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at La Posada - Mesilla Valley Hospice with his family present. JR was born January 7, 1930 to Fleetwood and Lou Jennie Crouch in Lynn Grove, Kentucky. He graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in Business in 1952. During his years at NMSU he played basketball for the Aggies under Coach George McCarty. He loved his experience playing basketball as an Aggie and met lifetime friends on his team. JR always spoke very highly of Coach McCarty and the life time lessons he had taught him. After college JR joined the US Air Force in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1965 as 1st Lieutenant. While in the Air Force he met his sweetheart Barbara Ann Wilde and they were married in 1955. During his stint in the Air Force, JR and Barbara moved to Lawrence, Kansas where JR attended the University of Kansas from 1954 to 1956 and received his Juris Doctorate. Crouch's career in Las Cruces included practicing law and real estate development from 1956 to 2003. He was very active in the legal profession, serving as president of the New Mexico Bar Association, the Western States Bar Conference and the New Mexico Federal Judicial Selection Committee. He was named outstanding New Mexico Lawyer in 1977. The NMSU College of Business named him their distinguished alumnus in 1985. JR is survived by his daughter Jackie Crouch Booth; his son-in-law Kevin H. Booth; his sister Maxine Bell; grandsons, James Crouch Booth (Whitney), Scott Andrew Booth and Craig Alan Booth (Josephine). He was preceded in death by his son James Michael Crouch; his wife Barbara Ann Crouch; and his brother Ralph B. Crouch. Visitation for JR Crouch will begin Thursday, January 13, 2011 at La Paz - Graham's Funeral Home Chapel from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14, 2011 at La Paz-Graham's Chapel at 10:00 a.m., with the burial to follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery. GARCIA -- Christa Garcia, wonderful, loving, wife and mother, born February 12, 1922 in Zoblitz, Germany, went to meet her heavenly Father on January 6, 2011. Christa was the second oldest of 16 children born to Alexander and Ida Margarethe Braune. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Arturo C. Garcia; daughter, Cynthia Garcia-Rugotska and husband Roger, who is currently serving in Afghanistan; son, Don Paul; grandsons, Zane and Colton; three sisters, Renate, Eva, and Ruth; one brother Manfred in Germany; nine nieces; five nephews; 16 great-nieces; ten great-nephews; 39 great-great nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends. Arturo and Christa met in Berlin Germany, after WWII, were married in Germany and Arturo brought her to the United States. During the 50's Christa worked at several jobs to put Arturo through medical school. After his graduation they had a successful medical practice, with Christa serving as his nurse, in Grants, NM and later in Albuquerque, NM. In 1964, Arturo and Christa bought passage on a ship for her sister Elfriede and her six children to immigrate to this great country of the United States of America. In those days they had to sponsor and support immigrants to make sure they would be self-sufficient, had jobs, and had a home. We will never forget the great sacrifice you made for us Tante Christa. We know there is a special place in heaven for your kindness, love and compassion. GIBBS -- Johnny Gibbs, 1938 - 2011, age 72, a resident of Los Lunas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 8, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Norma Gibbs; and his children, Vickie Edwards and Carrie Gibbs; grandchildren, Amanda Edwards, Lyndsie Edwards, and Jon Dillon Patrick; sister, Patsy Joyce Haviland and her children Larry, Gary, Cindy and Jodi; nephews, Stephen Mullens, Randy Mullens, Scott Wilson, and Marvin Fulfer; niece, Cheri Lujan; and son-in-law, Jeff Edwards. GLENN -- Bernie Glenn (January 3, 1914 - January 10, 2011) Bernie Glenn, 97, of Clovis, NM died Monday, January 10, 2011 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 13, 2011 at First United Methodist Church with Keath Baskett officiating. Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis. Pallbearers include Dave Tanner, Curtis Norris, Bobby Graham, Armand Smith, Don Bonner, and Doug Hill. All her grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Muffley Funeral Home. The family will be at Bernie's Home, 1317 Piedmont in Clovis. Bernie Glenn was born on January 3, 1914 at the family Homestead in Levi, NM to Dale LaVerne and Innes Howell Myers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Innes; and three sisters, Dotty Fullingin, Mabel Von Wolfe, and Alice White. Bernie graduated from Wagon Mound High School and attended New Mexico Normal (Highlands) University where she earned a teaching degree. Bernie paid her own way through school working as a Harvey Girl at the Castoneda Harvey House in Las Vegas, NM. While working at the Harvey House she met Stanley J. Glenn, who was working as a engineer for the AT&SF Railroad. They were married on Dec. 23, 1937 in Santa Rosa, NM. After moving to Clovis in 1950, Bernie became active in Red Cross Grey Ladies, Eastern Star, Rainbow, Encanto Garden Club, Altrusa, PRMC Auxilliary (Pink Ladies), and the First United Methodist Church. Bernies greatest loves were her family, her birds, and her beautiful flowers. She was dearly loved by her family, her many friends, and all who made her acquaintance. Bernie is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Virginia Glenn; her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jack Murphy; six grandchildren, Heather Glenn, Holly (Dennis) Stockstill, Matthew Glenn, Kelli (Billy) Love, Darrin (Yvonne) Murphy, and Mark (Jen) Murphy; seven great-grandchildren, Kayla Love, Sarah Love, Connor Love, Jack Murphy, Pete Murphy, Leah Murphy, and Laine Murphy. GOHEEN -- Richard M. Goheen, 79, a resident of Los Lunas since the 1950's, died Sunday, January 9, 2011. He is survived by his sons, Richard T. and wife, Sue, of Albuquerque and John A., of Redlands, CA; grandchildren, Richard, Hailey, and Amanda; and sister, Elizabeth of Frisco, TX; He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict. Over his life he acquired and maintained engineering degrees in mechanical, physical and professional engineering, in several states. He recently attended his 50 year graduation from the UNM Engineering Department. He enjoyed golfing, skiing, and maintaining the farm. Richard always said "It was a hell of a ride, no regrets". GOODRICH -- Samuel Villanueva Goodrich, aged 92, August 30, 1918 in Brownsville, Texas to January 6, 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Goodrich is survived by his three sons, Samuel, Anthony, and Kevin; two granddaughters, Kimberly Glasgow and Samantha Hobbs; and his five great-grandchildren, Kaitlin and Kendall Glasgow, Stone, Brooke, and Autumn Hobbs. Samuel served honorably in the United States military for 33 years. He served with Troop B, 12th Cavalry, Brownsville, Texas; with the USAAC in the 49th Fighter Group, Fifth Air Force during WWII; and with the USAF, including tours in Japan, France and the U.S., for the remainder of his career. Sam's final duty assignment was in Japan and he retired from active duty to Albuquerque, NM in March 1971. Sam followed his military service by working at the University of New Mexico library, from which he retired after 10 years. His hobbies and other retirement interests included: traveling with his wife, Estelle; rock collecting, golf, Albuquerque Dukes/Isotopes baseball, UNM basketball, reading, Dallas Cowboys and Notre Dame football. Sam was a generous, life-long contributor to multiple charities including the American Red Cross, Alzheimer's Association and the American Cancer Society, to name a few. Samuel will be remembered by friends and family as a man quick to smile and slow to anger. He was a friend to all, enemy to none. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, January 13, 2011, 9:00 a.m., at French - University Chapel, with interment to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. HOLLOWAY -- Dan Holloway passed away suddenly on January 7, 2011. He was born on July 7, 1955, lived throughout the country until he settled in Albuquerque in 1975. Dan was beloved by all who knew him because of his humor, compassion and intelligence. Anyone who came in contact with Dan felt immediately drawn to him, were comfortable and felt special when they were with him. He had many interests including all things technical, any gadget, comedy, sports, photography, travel and astronomy. His entire career was at Sandia National Laboratories, where he was recruited from college in Georgia. He loved his job and often felt that he was allowed to play all day and get paid to do so. He had a continuous hunger for learning about the latest technology and was generous in sharing everything he learned. He is survived by his wife, Roxanne; his mother, Lois Holloway; sister, Candace Smith; brothers, John and Mark Holloway; daughter, Rachael and many nieces and nephews. KOENIG -- Lt. Col. Paul H. Koenig, US Army (RET), entered into Heaven Friday, January 7, 2011. He was born December 14, 1919 in Odell, Nebraska, but grew up and attended schools in Gering, NE, where he was drafted in November, 1941. Paul was commissioned as a 2nd Lt., in December of 1942. He served at several Stations in the US before joining the Inactive Reserve in 1946. Paul was recalled in 1951 and served in Korea, Germany and several US assignments, before retiring in June 1971. He also served 16 years in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and retired as Senior USCG member in New Mexico in 1990. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State University of Alabama, the University of Utah and the US Army Command and General Staff College. In 1971, Paul moved with his family to Albuquerque and taught at TVI until the death of his first wife, Aleene, in 1988. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Schoellhorn and son-in-law, Dr. Rick Schoellhorn of Alachua, FL; grandson, Eran Schoellhorn of Durango, CO; and son, Timothy Koenig of Durango, CO. Paul is also survived by his wife, Ruth (Gumprecht), who he married in 1990. A Service of Victory in Christ will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church, 7001 San Antonio Dr. NE. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. MADRID -- Richard Lee Madrid Sr., 49, was born on July 18, 1961 and passed away on January 8, 2011. Richard was born in California and was a resident of Albuquerque for 37 years. MASSEY -- Tommy Arthur Massey, 67, of Estancia, NM passed away in Albuquerque, NM on Friday, January 7, 2011. Tommy was born on October 31, 1943 in Mayhill, NM to Floyd and Ruby Pearl (Denson) Massey. Tommy lived in Estancia for the past 52 years having previously lived in Weed, NM. He married Shirley Thiessen on June 17, 1962 in Palomas, Mexico. Tommy was a long time member of the NM Drillers Association and the National Groundwater Association. He drilled thousands of water wells in the past six decades. Tommy raised great children and grandchildren and was friendly and patient with everyone he met. Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ruby Massey; three brothers, Benny, Joe and Dave Massey; and one sister, Marilyn Adkison. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley (Thiessen) Massey of the family home in Estancia, NM; son, Tommy W. and his wife Penny Massey of Estancia, NM; daughters, Pamela K. Massey of Estancia, NM and Susan and her husband Ralph Bishop of Estancia, NM; brothers, James F. MURPHY -- Mary Lucille (Hegarty) Murphy, age 75, was born in Cliffwood, New Jersey, and died at home on December 28, 2010, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mary grew up in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in economics. At her older brother's prompting, she joined the United States Air Force and, as a commissioned 2nd Lieutenant, was among the first groups of non-medical female officers: her picture was used in recruitment and promotional materials. Mary was sent to Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque and was honorably discharged when she married widower and fellow serviceman Thomas Murphy and instantly became a mother to two-year-old Colleen. Mary was a stay-at-home mom for several years, and then went back to school, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in elementary education from Southeastern State College in Durant, Oklahoma, as did Tom. The family moved to Tohatchi and then Gallup, New Mexico, where Mary taught hundreds of students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades. She retired from Stagecoach Elementary School in Gallup in 1994 and moved to Albuquerque. Voracious reader that she was, Mary spent a lot of time at the library, and was especially fond of science fiction, history, and poetry. She kept her mind sharp doing the New York Times crossword puzzle, playing Scrabble, and watching Jeopardy. She loved chocolate, wine, and coffee ice cream! More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great - grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Tom; her son Stephen; and her sister Barbara Hegarty Smart. Mary is survived by her seven children: Colleen Tarket (Bill), John (Vicki), Tom (Melinda), Jennifer Murphy-Dye (Brian), Mary Teresa Dyer (Ron), Vincent (Laurajean), and Rosalie Bergamo (Terry); She is also survived by 20 grandchildren: Milt, Jeremy (Chelsea), Sean, Greg (Melissa), Michelle (Ray), Christopher, Phillip, Vanessa, Kevin, Stephen, Laura, Lauren (Randal), Brendan, Connor, Claire, Angela (Joel), Vincent, Rachel (Justin), Michael, and Mia; and eight great-grandchildren: Carson, Logan, Addison, Colin, Keira, Mya, Scott, and Alex; Mary is also survived by brothers, Michael Hegarty of Massachusetts, Charles Hegarty of St. Johnsbury, Vermont; and sister Miriam Hanlon-Weston (Bill) of Bremerton, Washington. A celebration of Mary's life will be held on January 15, 2011 at 6:00 p.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico, followed by a reception at the family home. OCCHIPINTI -- Jorge "Pino" Occhipinti, 89, died January 7, 2011. Pino was born on January 5, 1922 in Ragusa, Sicily. He immigrated to Buenos Aires, Argentina when he was three years old with parents, Carmen Barone and Jose Occhipinti and his brother Jose. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Edola Monaco de Occhipinti; He was also preceded in death by several relatives in Buenos Aires and New Jersey. He was a resident of Albuquerque, NM since 1992. His first job was selling flowers with cousins when he was young. He worked at Olivero y Cia factory in the shoe industry for 25 years, riding his bike to work each day. There he met Edola the love of his life. When the factory burned down he worked as a movie theatre usher and then as a carpenter for Alvarez & Sons. He received awards for perfect attendance and outstanding work throughout his career. Jorge completed several hundred hours of English as a Second Language courses at TV-I/CNM. There he received many certificates for perfect attendance and excellent work. He was loved by his teachers and peers. He was an amazing and creative cook much to family and friend's delight. Soccer was one of Pino's passions. As a young man he played in the minor leagues for Velez Sarfield. He enjoyed watching soccer games with his grandsons. He was energetic and spunky well into his golden years. Jorge is survived by his daughter Ana Maria Occhipinti de Dolan; his grandchildren, Carla, Frank, and Matthew Dolan, and Stephanie Levine who he considered his granddaughter; He also leaves behind relatives in Buenos Aires and on the East Coast; He will be missed by many wonderful neighbors and friends in Don Torcuato, Argentina and Albuquerque. SIMS -- Archie M. Sims, a resident of Albuquerque since 1953, passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 4, 2011. He was born in New Augusta, Mississippi on April 21, 1922 to James E. and Laura A. (Lambert) Sims. Archie served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps with the 4th Combat Cargo Group on the Ledo Road in Burma. He was with the New Mexico Air Guard in Tuy Hoa, Vietnam in 1968 and retired from the "Enchilada Air Force" in 1982. Archie was a 32nd degree Mason for over 50 years and was a member of Temple Lodge 6 and Ballut Abyad Shrine. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen. Archie is survived by his son, Andrew; daughter-in-law, Heidi; and daughter, Andrea and her husband, Robert Stone; He is also survived by three grandchildren, Kelly Rojas, Justin Sims, and Aaron Sims; and a great-grandson, Aaron Rojas. SUSSILLO -- Christopher Bede (Oct. 24, 1950 - Jan. 4, 2011) had many roles in this lifetime. Son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, husband, father, uncle, friend and Christian! Chris was very proud to Praise Jesus and "clearly announced to me the day he died that he "would see me with the Lord." Chris' spirit, as well as his DNA, lives on through us. VASSAW -- Margaret Vassaw, 87, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend was called home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2011. WELCH -- Stirling Keith Welch, 80, died at his Albuquerque home on Sunday, January 9, 2011 following a battle with cancer. Stirling was born on February 5, 1930 in Parkston, South Dakota to Joseph and Bessie Welch. After high school graduation he joined the Air Force and was stationed at Kirtland Air Force Base. He trained and served as an airborne radar mechanic. He and Eunice "Cathy" Vahle were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Albuquerque on September 16, 1953. After his military service Stirling attended the University of New Mexico and worked 25 years for Albuquerque Gravel Products in their data-processing department. In retirement he served as a volunteer camp ground host for the National Forest Service in Jemez Falls and as a volunteer at the Balloon Fiesta. He also kept busy collecting, restoring, and exhibiting antique engines. A loyal member of Immanuel Lutheran Church he served the church in many capacities. Preceded in death by his only brother, John, Stirling is survived by his wife of 57 years, Cathy; a sister-in-law, Jeanette "Skip" Welch, of Parkston, SD; a brother-in-law, Jerry Vahle (Lynn), and a sister-in-law, Marion Wilson (Brian), all of Denver; He is also survived by a cousin in Las Cruces, NM, Bill Mattas (Janet); five nieces; four nephews; many cousins and a host of friends. Services will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011, 11:00 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church with burial at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
