KOENIG -- Lt. Col. Paul H. Koenig, US Army (RET), entered into Heaven Friday, January 7, 2011. He was born December 14, 1919 in Odell, Nebraska, but grew up and attended schools in Gering, NE, where he was drafted in November, 1941. Paul was commissioned as a 2nd Lt., in December of 1942. He served at several Stations in the US before joining the Inactive Reserve in 1946. Paul was recalled in 1951 and served in Korea, Germany and several US assignments, before retiring in June 1971. He also served 16 years in the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and retired as Senior USCG member in New Mexico in 1990. He was a graduate of Jacksonville State University of Alabama, the University of Utah and the US Army Command and General Staff College. In 1971, Paul moved with his family to Albuquerque and taught at TVI until the death of his first wife, Aleene, in 1988. He is survived by one daughter, Linda Schoellhorn and son-in-law, Dr. Rick Schoellhorn of Alachua, FL; grandson, Eran Schoellhorn of Durango, CO; and son, Timothy Koenig of Durango, CO. Paul is also survived by his wife, Ruth (Gumprecht), who he married in 1990. A Service of Victory in Christ will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., at Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church, 7001 San Antonio Dr. NE. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's name to the Christ the Ray of Hope Lutheran Church Mission Fund, 7001 San Antonio Dr. NE, Albuquerque, 87109, or to a charity of your choice.
