HAYES -- Clifton B. Hayes, 88, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, died November 18, 2010 following a brief illness. Born in Dowling Park, Florida, Cliff loved southern food and ate grits nearly every morning. In 1942, Cliff left Florida and enlisted in the U.S. army. While stationed in Grand Junction, CO he met and married his wife, Lois H. Wymore, of 64 years. After serving in the army for over twenty years, from 1942-1963, he moved to Albuquerque, where he was a life insurance agent until 1975. Following his job as an insurance agent, he purchased a furniture store in 1975; he owned Hayes Furniture Store until 1987 at which time he retired. Cliff sincerely enjoyed talking to old friends and meeting new ones. He could strike up a conversation with anyone in a matter of seconds, and he truly was a people person. After retirement, Cliff and Lois thoroughly enjoyed traveling through the U.S. and Canada with their motor home, and along the way Cliff always took pleasure in talking with people and making new friends. He is survived by his wife Lois Hayes; three children, Darrell (and spouse Rosella), Yvonne (and spouse Dan), and Dale; four grandchildren, Matthew (and spouse Leticia), Marie (and spouse Kevin), Mark (and spouse Rachel), and Tamara (and spouse Brian); and four great-grandchildren, Quetzali, Stella, Riley, and Will. A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, November 23 from 5-7 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. The funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 10:00 a.m. at Del Norte Baptist Church, 5800 Montgomery Blvd, and internment will follow the services at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
