MORA -- David R. Mora, beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on August 15, 2010 and is now resting in peace. Dave was born on October 6, 1933 in Cimarron, NM to Juan and Alice Mora along with his surviving brothers, Robert, Raymond and Rudy; and sisters, Frances, Nancy and Dorothy. He was preceded in death by his brother George Mora. In the spring of his life, Dave enjoyed hunting with his dad and brothers, fishing and playing basketball for Cimarron High School. In 1953 Dave joined the US Air Force then married his high school sweetheart Alice Sanchez who gave him three daughters, Terry, Melody and Michelle. While serving his country Dave received many awards including the Meritorious Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Commendation Medal and Outstanding Service with Valor. In August 1966 to May 1967 TSgt Mora as NCOIC, Air Operations Section, 416th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Bien Hoa Air Base, Republic of Vietnam; distinguished himself and received The Bronze Star Medal. Dave served all over the world from Elmendorf, Alaska, Guam, Clark AFB, Philippines to being an advisor with the American Embassy at Wheelus AFB, Tripoli Libya before the government over throw. Dave retired from the Air Force in 1972 serving 22 years, then worked for the US Postal Service. In May 1985 Dave was awarded a City of Commendation by City Councilor Richard Mather for his action of heroism in thwarting a robbery on April 10, 1985 as a postman. Retired from the postal service he moved to his hometown, Cimarron, where he worked as a bus driver for his high school and served as a City Councilman. In the winter of his life he married his love, Corrine Lopez and they enjoyed traveling, gardening and golf. Dave will also be remembered for dressing sharp, good cologne, great smile, his mischievous nature and great sense of humor. He loved his grandchildren Chanel, Michael, Crystal, Charae, Nicholas and Mariah; and great-grandchildren Ray and Savannah. He also loved his 30 pairs of tennis shoes, being a loyal Lobo fan, dancing rancheras, his lawn, and his many friends. He will be remembered and missed dearly. Funeral Services will be Monday, August 23, 2010 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Rio Rancho at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Reception and celebration of Dave's life will be at 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion Post 49, 11005 East Central.
