METOYER -- Anthony (Tony) Metoyer, Sr. at the tender and wise age of 84 years old, joyfully awakened in the presence of his Lord on Thursday, July 23, 2010 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Tony Sr. was born to Ernest and Emily (Sarpy) Metoyer on February 24, 1926 in Derry, Louisiana. He honorably served his country in the U. S. Navy during World War II, and then returned to Louisiana to marry his life-long love, Marie C. Chevalier of Alexandria, LA, whom he faithfully loved and cherished for more than 60 years. Tony was a long-time and loyal member of St. Therese of the Little Flower Catholic Church where he proudly served as a Lector and Usher. He re-located his family to Albuquerque in 1957 for better employment opportunities but was best known as the kind, whistle-blowing, finger shaking, gentle giant, "Crossing Guard" in the North Valley area for many years. Tony Sr. will be endlessly missed by his devoted wife, Marie and their eight children, Greg Metoyer and his wife Fran, Marsha Metoyer, Emily Stock and her husband Stewart, Tony Metoyer, Jr. and his wife Stephanie, Paula Metoyer, Marty Metoyer (deceased), Kevin Metoyer and his wife Diane, Lynne Martin and her husband Brian, 23 grandchildren, more than 20 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, kind neighbors, and countless friends. Tony was a loyal and simple man of steadfast integrity, brutal honesty, and unwavering love who took great pleasure in his ever-growing family, his faith, his country, the North Valley, and his sports. Tony Sr.'s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated and caring staff of the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center of Albuquerque, NM for their informed guidance, and professional commitment to the services they provide daily to our deserving veterans. A Rosary for Mr. Metoyer will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., at French - University. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010, 9:30 a.m. at St. Therese of the Little Flower Catholic Church, 300 Mildred Ave. NW, Albuquerque, NM with burial to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
