GHERARDI -- Mary (Bandoni) Gherardi passed away on June 15, 2010 after suffering from progressive Alzheimer's disease the past two years. Mary was born in Albuquerque on June 26, 1922 and was preceded in death by her husband James Gherardi. A "city" girl, she became the ultimate farm wife; feeding rabbits, chickens and cows, working long hours sorting asparagus, hoeing the garden, driving the tractor when needed, but especially making great Italian farm meals. She will long be remembered for her roasts and pasta. Mary had a deep faith and was a long time member of the Ascension Parish "Altar Society"; she also was a member of the Lay Canossian Sisters of Casa Angelica and taught religion classes to grade school children for over forty years. Mary loved butterflies and used them as an analogy of her faith. She would explain that on earth we are like the lowly caterpillar, confined to the ground. In death we enter our cocoon, only to spring forth into a new and glorious life in heaven ever more beautiful and able to fly and float without restrictions of this earth. We are sure she is one of the most beautiful butterflies ever! Mary was also preceded in death by her sister Anita Eskra; and her brother Joseph "Beppe" Bandoni. She is survived by her brothers, Frank Bandoni and Tony Bandoni and wife Barbara; Her children, Kathryn Esquibel and husband Jose', Jeanette Torres and husband John, Robert Gherardi and wife Nancy, and Rosemary Scott and husband Ray; she had ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren which she dearly loved. Pallbearers will be; Christopher Esquibel, Ryan Torres, Jason Torres, David Engstrom, Ted Bandoni, and Steven Bandoni. A special thank you from the family to the Cottages of Albuquerque for their care and compassion and especially to Shantel and Carla. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to: Alzheimer's Association of New Mexico, 9500 Montgomery NE, Suite 121 Albuquerque, NM 87111. Online condolences can be submitted at www.danielsfuneral.com.
