JOTTMANN -- HERMAN AUGUST JOTTMANN, 60, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, died on June 5, 2010 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on June 5, 1950 in Honolulu, the son of Theodor and Margaret Kassebeer Jottmann, and grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii. He was a graduate of Hawaii Preparatory Academy, and went on to attend Carnegie Mellon University and Oregon State University, eventually receiving his bachelor's degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He served in the Air Force and the New Mexico Air National Guard. An Albuquerque resident for thirty years, he worked at Los Alamos National Laboratories, SAIC, and most recently at Central New Mexico Community College, where he was a math instructor. Herman was an avid outdoorsman, and had climbed all of Colorado's fourteeners. He is survived by his longtime partner, Nina Helen Dorrance of Albuquerque, New Mexico, his former wife and dear friend, Denise Laverne Smith of Lebanon, Oregon, and his many friends and colleagues. Funeral services will be private, and a celebration of Herman's life will be held at a later time. Memorial gifts in his honor may be made to the Nature Conservancy.
