BIDAL -- Michael Francois Richard Bidal, 75, passed away on June 11, 2010. Michael was born in Coronado, California on December 4, 1934. He was the son of Comte Edouard Bidal d' Asfeld and Ysabel Beattie Stafford. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Lillian; their sons Michael William Bidal and his wife Martha, and their children, Brendan and Megan Bidal, of Maynooth, County Kildare, Ireland and Robert Charles Bidal and his wife, Cindy, and their children, Cathryn and Daniel Bidal of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Other relatives include half-brothers, Comte Marcus Bidal d' Asfeld, his wife and children, and Comte Yves Bidal d'Asfeld, and his children in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. BRUSUELAS -- Ernestina Lopez Brusuelas, 88, resident of Rio Rancho, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010. She is survived by a son, Edward Brusuelas Sr. and wife, Stella of Tularosa; four grandchildren, Monica Madrid Romero and husband, Daniel, Damian Madrid, Edward Brusuelas Jr. and wife, Kristine, and Maria Brusuelas Mathiesen and husband, Thomas; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Esperanza Padilla and Emily Levine; brother, Michael Lopez; and numerous nephews. She was preceded in death by daughter, Marie Madrid. Ernestina was born in Ojo Caliente, NM to Salvador and Josefa Lopez. She was a graduate of Albuquerque High School in 1943 and immediately joined the US Army as one of the first Hispanic women to serve in World War II. She was an active member of the secular Franciscan Order of the Catholic Church, and she volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul at Sacred Heart Church in the Barelas neighborhood. Ernestina retired from civil service with the U.S. Navy after 35 years. Rosary will be recited Sunday, June 13, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., at French - Westside Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, June 14, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 301 Camino del Pueblo in Bernalillo, with Father Stephen Imbarato, Celebrant. CONNOLLY -- Phyllis Ann (Peters) Connolly, 81, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010. Phyllis was born on January 24, 1929, to Henry Oscar and Bertha Ann (Heintzelman) Peters of Greensberg, PA. She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Alice Peters, her sister, Karen Baker, and survived by her sister, Penny Hawk. She has now reunited with her husband, Michael Vincent Connolly, Jr. She will be dearly missed by her children: Michael Vincent Connolly, III, and his wife, Barbara; Patrick Henry Connolly and his wife, Kathryn; Kevin Mark Connolly and his wife, Cheryl; and Laura Ann Connolly. Phyllis adored her grandchildren: Peter and his wife Sarah, Heidi and her husband Matt, Meghan, Niklaus, Erin, Colin, and Angela; and her great-grandchildren: Atticus, Samuel, and Matthew. DAVIDSON -- Mary Earl Davidson, 89, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. She is survived by her daughters, Dinah Spillers and Janet Blessing and her husband, Larry; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. FOWLER -- Glenn A. Fowler, 92, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died on Tuesday, June 8, 2010. Glenn was retired from Sandia Laboratories where he worked for more than 35 years. Born in Riverdale, CA, Glenn attended UC Berkeley. After graduating in 1941 with a BS in electrical engineering, he moved to MIT Radiation Laboratory to work on radar. In 1943, he was transferred to the Pentagon. Glenn was later recruited to work on the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos in 1945. Glenn was active in the local community while continuing his passion for the Boy Scouts and Philmont Scout Ranch. He was preceded in death by Mary Alice, his wife of 56 years; is survived by his children, Allan of Eureka Springs, AR, Bruce of Albuquerque, Carol of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. No memorial service will be held. Should friends desire, the family requests donations to be made to the charity of your choice.

FUNES -- Maria our beloved "Chata, Mama, Nana, Comadre" Funes, 82, was taken home to the Lord on Thursday, June 10, 2010. She is survived by her children, Felix Funes and wife, Patsy, Michelle Gallegos and husband, Raymond, Maryann Baca, Tony Funes and wife, Alma, Julia Garcia and husband, Sam, Santiago Funes, Theresa Gomez and husband, Ernie, Clara Dixon and husband, Jim, Alice Sena and husband, Joe, Raymond Funes and fiancee, Rose, Angel Franco and husband, Louie, Eva Clark and husband, Mark, Monica Salazar and Crystal Funes; 42 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; her brother, like her son, Armando "Chato" Ortiz and wife, Elvia; special sister-in-law, Margarita Ortiz; sisters, Lupe DeLaFuente and husband, Robert, Lucy Escobedo and husband, Perfecto and Beatrice Garcia; and many nieces and nephews. "Nana's" extended family included her wonderful Comadres and Compadres, her children's in-laws and many dear friends. She is preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Jose Funes; son, Juan De La Cruz Funes; grandsons, Little Ray Gallegos and Simon Garcia; great-grandson, Matthew Jose Gallegos; parents, Dionicio and Luz Ortiz; brothers, Theodoro and Johnny Ortiz; and brother-in-law, Joe Garcia. Mama "Nana" will be remembered for the unconditional love she had for her family, the strength and courage she showed to us after the death of her loving husband Jose, as well as the many lessons she showed us up until her last breath. "Nana's" beautiful smile and her love for everyone she knew will never be forgotten. HANDLEMAN -- Stanley D. Handleman PhD, 80, died June 11, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Gertrude, sister Doris Alkon of Long Island, New York, and other family and friends. Stan was preceded in death by his parents Irving and Eva Handleman. He received a Master Degree from Brooklyn College where he later taught. Stan served two years in the U.S. Army in Korea and later in Japan where he met his future wife who was teaching there. Stan received his PhD from New York University. Dr Handleman also taught at Hofstra University. While teaching at Brooklyn College he was asked to serve in the Peace Corp where he became director of volunteers in an education/television program in Colombia, South America. After 2 years in Colombia, he was asked by the State Department to work in El Salvador in a similar program where he served for several years. Stan continued to work for the State Department in Afghanistan and later several countries in West Africa. Dr Handleman had a passion from an early age for theater and music. He was a jazz enthusiast and even learned to play the Saxophone after retirement. He was always involved in little theater wherever he went and when he retired he continued this interest with Adobe Theater, Albuquerque Little Theater and University of NM theater department. Stan even had the opportunity to act along side James Earl Jones in "The Great White Hope" when it opened in Washington DC. He especially enjoyed getting to work with Jeanne Grealish and Jane Snow in Opera Unlimited, a special program that these ladies still devote their lives to. HEFLEY -- Glenda Rae Hefley, 63, resident of the East Mountains, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 6, 2010. HELDENBRAND -- Regina Heldenbrand, Gina, better known as Nanna, Mrs. H., and Momma Gina to close friends and family, was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Opal Bernard Brunner and Alfred James Johnson in 1955. After marrying her husband, Ed, in 1972, they lived in Rio Rancho, NM, El Paso, Tx, and eventually Roswell, NM. Regina quietly passed away on June 9, 2010 in Roswell while surrounded by close family and friends after years of valiantly fighting numerous health problems. Regina was preceded in death by her mother Opal Barnard; her father Alfred Johnson; and step-father, Henry "Hank" Brunner. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Patsy Houston of Nashville, Tn and Charlotte Powell of San Antonio Tx; and by her mother in-law Lois Heldenbrand. Regina is survived by her husband of 38 years, Ed; her father-in-law, Carl; and by her eldest sister, Barbara June (William) Martin of Colorado Springs, Co. She is also survived by her children, Valerie, Jon, Casey, and "shared" daughter Bialy; as well as by daughter-in-law Kara; son-in-law Robert; and grandchildren Taylor, James, Kandence and Lillian. Additionally, Regina is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins and "special sisters" Livia Canizales, Shelley Cowan, and Christine Lohkamp all of whom loved and cherished her. HICKMAN -- Patricia Ann Hickman, 86, a 45-year resident of Corrales, NM, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010 after a courageous battle with cancer. Patricia was born in Albuquerque, NM, June 9, 1923 to J.W. and Ella Hesselden. Patricia was a graduate of Albuquerque High School where she and her twin sister, Rita, were cheerleaders. She and her husband, Berry Hickman, Jr. managed the Long Horn Ranch in Moriarty, NM for many years where they developed an avid love for the appaloosa horse. In the sixties, she and her family moved to Corrales, NM, where they continued breeding, raising, showing and racing appaloosa horses. Patricia was a continual presence on the ditch banks either riding her horses or walking her dogs and was a well known horsewoman all over the state. She was employed by Dan's Boots and Saddles for 25 years. Patricia left behind many loving family members: brother Adrian Hesselden and his wife Eva; children Berry Hickman, III, and Cathleen Fiedler and her husband Kurt; grandchildren Gina Hickman, Bo Hickman and his wife Marigold, Allyn Bates Summa, Seth Fiedler and his wife Marcelle, and Jesse Fiedler and his wife Missy; great-grandchildren Cory Lucero, Ozley Hickman, Lorraine Summa and Jazmine, Kayla, Ria and Mikaela Fiedler. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Anthony Hickman and six of her seven siblings. Patricia will be greatly missed by all that shared their lives with her. A private celebration of her life will be held for family members and close friends. The family expresses deep appreciation to all of her caregivers. HORROCKS -- Michael Stanley Horrocks, 55, Albuquerque native, passed away Sunday, May 30, 2010. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Davidson; son, David Reid; mother, Barbara MacDonald; father, Stuart MacDonald; sisters, Judy MacDonald, Christine Pritchard, and Loretta Williams; brothers, Phillip, Brian, Lee "Dugan", and Timothy MacDonald; extended family and many friends. Michael was a valued employee of Windsor Door Sales. Before Windsor, he drove for North American and worked in fiberglass and construction. He loved travel, the outdoors, inventing gadgets and crafting intricate woodwork. Michael was happiest helping others. An accomplished marksman, he won many awards for the US Shooting Team. Was quick to fire off jokes too. He belonged to a local darts club and was a proud NRA member. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. JOTTMANN -- HERMAN AUGUST JOTTMANN, 60, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico, died on June 5, 2010 as a result of an automobile accident. He was born on June 5, 1950 in Honolulu, the son of Theodor and Margaret Kassebeer Jottmann, and grew up on the Big Island of Hawaii. He was a graduate of Hawaii Preparatory Academy, and went on to attend Carnegie Mellon University and Oregon State University, eventually receiving his bachelor's degree from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. He served in the Air Force and the New Mexico Air National Guard. An Albuquerque resident for thirty years, he worked at Los Alamos National Laboratories, SAIC, and most recently at Central New Mexico Community College, where he was a math instructor. Herman was an avid outdoorsman, and had climbed all of Colorado's fourteeners. He is survived by his longtime partner, Nina Helen Dorrance of Albuquerque, New Mexico, his former wife and dear friend, Denise Laverne Smith of Lebanon, Oregon, and his many friends and colleagues. Funeral services will be private, and a celebration of Herman's life will be held at a later time. Memorial gifts in his honor may be made to the Nature Conservancy.

KATHREIN -- Joseph Wendell Kathrein, a longtime Albuquerque resident, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010. He was born December 28, 1919 in Glendive, MT. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Muriel; three children, Joseph R. Kathrein (Liz), Karyl L. Farris (Rick), both of Albuquerque, and Mary E. Boncek (Stan) of Dacula, GA; five grandchildren, Erika Kathrein (fianc, Elliott Lucas) of San Francisco, CA, Joshua Kathrein (Shawna) of Crescent, OK, Angela Farris (fianc Ryan Costanza), Damien Farris (Laura) and Jonathan Farris, all of Albuquerque; and great-granddaughter Lily Belle Farris of Albuquerque. Joe is also survived by his brother, H. R. Kathrein (Marilyn) of Bozeman, MT and sister, Pauline Eckroth of Billings, MT. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Regina Kathrein and sister, Elizabeth Smith. Joe proudly served his country during WWII in the North Africa/Sicily/Italy Campaigns as a court reporter in the 12th US Army Air Corps JAG Office. He retired from the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Department of Interior, as a fisheries biologist in 1982. Joe also served on the US NM Federal Employees Credit Union Board of Directors for 15 years. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at 7:00 p.m. at French - Westside Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at 9:00 a.m., at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Drive NW. LEYBA -- John Larry Leyba, age 64, a resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico and also a long time resident of Roswell, New Mexico died unexpectedly at Lovelace Hospital on the morning of Monday, June 7, 2010 of heart and lung failure. He is survived by his spouse of 11 years, Tracy Morgan-Leyba of Albuquerque; his son, Christopher John Leyba of Richmond, Virginia; and grandchildren, Jacob, Thomas and Shannon Leyba; his daughter, Janet Kay Morgan and husband Steve and their children Alexandra, Jackson and Lily Rose Morgan also residents of Richmond, Virginia; and his brother, Patrick Henry Patterson lifelong resident of Albuquerque, N.M. John Leyba was a graduate of Eastern New Mexico University where he studied psychology. He spent time as a counselor for The Department of Social Services in Roswell and later moved to Albuquerque where he pursued his career at The Albuquerque Commission for The Blind, where he retired in 2008. He was passionate about people and sacrificed much of his time and self to help others achieve their goals. He was a man of great benevolence and compassion. He delighted himself with simple things like nature, reading and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted father and husband among many other things. The last thing that he ever said before he died was "I have faced adversity head on full of fear full of courage. I have stood there and faced it.and sometimes adversity wins at times but I am ready to fight, fight, fight!" He was greatly loved and he will be greatly missed. LINTON -- John R. Linton 88, of Albuquerque, died on June 9, 2010, following a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Betty; four children, Mac, Paul, Dan (Anyuly) and his children, Marilyn, John, and Michael; and Liz and her children, Susie and Lisa; and sister Nona, and many nieces and nephews. LOHBECK -- Kurt. On June 9, 2010, Kurt Lohbeck passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and close friends. Kurt had struggled the last several years with emphysema and COPD, which he fought manfully and without complaint. Born in St. Louis, MO in 1942, Kurt, who was an avid Cardinals baseball fan, was the son of Don Lohbeck and Virginia Zussman. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, her son Albert Narath, son Robert Lohbeck (Cheryl), sister Michelle Britt (Paul), and nephew David Watland. Kurt had an adventurous and fascinating life highlighted by time he spent as a radio and television announcer and news director, a congressional consultant to the U.S. House Interior Committee, an aide for then New Mexico Congressman Manuel Lujan, a NM legislator, a CBS war correspondent covering Afghanistan for 10 years during the Soviet invasion, an author (Holy War, Unholy Victory), an expert witness regarding Afghan refugees seeking political asylum, a founder and member of the board of a local bank, founder and president of the regional chapter of the Society of American Magicians (S.A.M.), and a member of LA's Magic Castle and London's Magic Circle. His various entrepreneurial ventures included working to help decrease the dangers of landmines, as well as owning a pub, and writing documentaries. He was interested in and involved with a number of political campaigns and candidates in NM and Washington D.C. He and Barbara were intimately involved in fighting Cystic Fibrosis. Well traveled, Kurt has been to many countries, both alone, with family, and with his wife. Kurt and Barbara loved to entertain their many political and artistic friends at their table, preferably with a gourmet meal Kurt prepared himself, served with dessert and a magic trick or two. His bold, multi-faceted, and entertaining personality will be missed by many. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to gather at the Lohbeck residence on June 27th at 2 PM.

NIGHBERT -- Mary Belle. Our loving mom Mary Belle Nighbert, age 83 of Farmington passed away at home on June 7, 2010. She was born April 14, 1927 in Tampa, Florida to John P. Montego and Eva Hewitt She married the love of her life, Charles C. Nighbert and together for 64 years they had an extraordinary life full of travel and excitement. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper for different retail stores. Mom and Dad loved to square dance and mom made all the dresses for the ladies. She loved caring for her rose garden and her family was her number one priority. She was such a loving and caring mom. Marybelle is survived by her children Robin Duprey and husband Rob, Randy Nighbert, Pam Fullerton and Debby Wells; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. ORGILL -- Bernard (Barney) Orgill passed away on June 10, 2010, following a long illness. He is survived by Dolores (Dee) Orgill, his wife of 57 years; son James Orgill and wife Maureen of Wall Township, NJ; Kevin, Michael, and Shawn all of Albuquerque, and Joseph of Denver; daughters, Sharon and husband Tim Luten, and Geri and her husband Thomas Mortensen all from Albuquerque. He was also proud of his 10 wonderful grandchildren, Heather and Darren Mortensen, Shaun, Courtney and Matthew Orgill, Joshua, Zachary and Rebecca Luten and Trevor and Troy Orgill. Barney was born on July 3rd 1929 in Pittsburgh, PA. While serving in the US Air Force, Barney married his High School sweetheart and started his family, eventually moving to Albuquerque in 1962, where he worked as an air traffic controller. While raising his seven children, Barney found time to serve his church and was deeply involved in Albuquerque youth athletics. Among his many roles, activities, and accomplishments he umpired, officiated, and coached baseball, football and basketball. Barney was involved at many levels of competition; youth, high school and college. He was most proud of helping found Albuquerque's Young America Football League. Many in Albuquerque know him simply as "Coach Barney". A public viewing is planned for Monday, June 14, 2010 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at French~Wyoming Chapel, 7121 Wyoming NE, with a rosary to follow at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian burial to be held Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. at Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church, 8901 Candelaria NE. SHANE -- William D. Shane, Jr. a resident of Albuquerque since 1963, passed away on June 8, 2010. William was born in Des Moines, Iowa to William D. Shane and Margaret Falk Shane on March 12, 1934. He attended Drake University where he received a B.S. in Mathematics. He was employed as a Systems Analyst, Chief of System Software for the U.S. Department of Defense Nuclear Agency. William served two tours of duty in the Army Signal Corps, the most recent from 1962-1963. William enjoyed cars, and was a wonderful father and husband. He enjoyed RV traveling, family get-togethers and seeing his grandchildren grow into fine adults. William is survived by his wife Donea of Albuquerque; his son Craig and daughter-in-law Rebecca of Salt Lake City; daughter Lynnea of Washington D.C.; grandson Benjamin L. Cassel of Kent, CT; nephew Graham J. Powell of Darien CT; grandchildren Pahl Charles Shipley, Nicholas S. Shipley, and Erin M. Gasser of Albuquerque, Edward P. Porcelli II of Tampa, FL, and Michael P. Porcelli of Lake Worth, FL; and five great-grandchildren. Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother, Florence O. A 1947 graduate of St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in New York, Carolyn was a beautiful and giving person who spent her life caring for her patients, her family and her friends. She was an elegant lady with a twinkle in her eye and a love for dancing, cruises, and bridge parties. Her loss is deeply felt. SMITH -- Delbert Orton Smith III, 64, passed away May 15, 2010 at home in Fort Myers, FL. Born May 17, 1945, Albuquerque, NM. Known as "Dee or Papa Del" to family and friends. Del attended Valley High School in Alb., NM, graduated Riverside Military Academy, Gainesville, GA. Served proudly in the U.S. Navy as a Naval jet engine mechanic, Vietnam era. TENOLD -- Oren Tenold passed away on Sunday, June 6, 2010, shortly after his 90th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luella and Seymour Tenold. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Susan Henson, Sharon Noblitt and husband, John, and Sandra Brown and husband, Lee; stepsons, Donald and Darrel Patterson; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Oren enlisted in the army during World War II, serving in North Africa and Europe. After his discharge, he moved to Albuquerque in 1947. He was a very active, life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 401 and a member of the M.O.C. Oren was a charter member of the Alameda Lions Club. He owned and operated his own business, Oren's Alignment Shop, for many years in Albuquerque. He was a loving husband and father and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. WYRICK -- John William Wyrick, age 80, of Albuquerque, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010. John received many medals and citations from the US Army before his retirement, after 21 years of service to his country. He was a life member of VFW Post 5890 and DAV Chapter 5 in Rio Rancho.
