THOMAS -- Rufus Thomas, age 67, a resident of San Rafael passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010. Rufus is survived by his wife, Marlene; sister, Earleen Simunovich of Missoula, MT; and brother, John of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Lucille Thomas; two sisters, Marie Bessemer and Diane Padilla; and brother, Alvin Thomas. Rufus was born in Gibson, NM on November 1, 1942 to Benjamin and Lucille Thomas. He spent 20 years at the Navajo Shopping Center in Gamerco, NM, then went on to own and operate Prewitt Trading Post until closing down in 2002.
