MCCARTY -- Marietta Young McCarty died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 in Marble Falls, TX, at 90 years of age. She was born August 26, 1920 to Allen and Lula Young of McLean, TX. On April 1, 1942, she married George McCarty and had two children, Sandra and Mike. As a loving and faithful wife, she supported her husband as his coaching career moved him to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, New Mexico; Texas Western College in El Paso, Texas; University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming; and the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She was an avid golfer, traveling all over the country to play with her husband and close friends. Marietta was preceded in death by her parents; and four sisters; her son, Mike; her daughter, Sandra; and her first grandchild, Rusty. She leaves behind her husband of 69 years; four grandchildren: Todd Ashmore and wife Kristin, Amy Cozby and husband Trey, Carol Ashmore, and Rebecca McCarty and husband Jimmy; and four great grandchildren: Courtney, Calley, Clay, and Cacey Cozby. Graveside services are scheduled for May 22, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in McLean, Texas. Memorials may be made to the George C. McCarty Endowment Fund, Department of Athletics, New Mexico State University, PO Box 3590 Las Cruces, New Mexico 88003-3590.
