LEWIS -- Ruth E. Lewis, 97, long time resident of Albuquerque passed away April 20, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vilo G. Lewis, and her daughter, Linda L. Welton. Born in Parkville, MO August 8, 1912, she attended Park College for 3 years She received her B.S. degree in 1934 from Central State University in Warrensburg, MO. She then came to Albuquerque where she was employed as a Therapeutic Dietician at St. Joseph's Hospital and as an instructor in Chemistry and Nutrition in the St. Joseph School of Nursing. In 1940, she married Vilo and resigned from her job at the Hospital, only to return the next year when Vilo was drafted for duty during World War II. Upon his discharge in 1945, Ruth retired to become a homemaker. She spent many volunteer hours working for the American Red Cross, at First Presbyterian Church (where she and Vilo were long time members), and in the Albuquerque Meadows Senior Retirement Center. She is survived by two grandchildren: Anthony Opalka of Boise, ID and Kelly Shelton and husband, Jeremy, of Albuquerque; two nieces: Nancy Wallace of Milwaukee, WS and Sharon McNamee of Houston, TX; two nephews: Michael and Danny McNamee of El Paso, TX; four great-grandchildren: Diego Opalka, Marcus, Cameron, and Kaylee Shelton. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church Inasmuch Fund.
