WEST -- Julianne Wells Scurry West. Mrs. West was born in Winston-Salem, NC on April 12, 1943. She lived in Reidsville, NC and graduated from Reidsville High School in 1961. She graduated from Women's College (currently UNC-G) in Greensboro, NC. She taught school in Winston-Salem, NC and went on to graduate school obtaining her Master's Degree from the University of New Mexico. She later became a Child Therapist at the Bernalillo County Mental Health Center and worked there for many years. She had her own private practice in Child Therapy and later worked for the University of New Mexico until she retired. After retirement she continued to help people who needed her as a participant in many community organizations. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Albuquerque and the Albuquerque Animal Humane Society. Julie will be sorely missed in the Albuquerque community. Her zeal for life and all that it presented marked her as a unique individual with massive amounts of love for others and for causes that benefited humanity. She is survived by her sister, Bonnie Nelson and husband, Allen, of Reidsville, NC; her brother, Bill Scurry and wife, Judy of Winston-Salem, NC; three nieces; as well as 6 great-nieces and 7 great-nephews. She is also survived by two step-children. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Claude and Mary Scurry of Reidsville, NC; her husband, Joe West of Albuquerque, NM; two aunts and three uncles. There will be two Memorial Services: in Albuquerque, NM on April 17, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church and at a later date at Main Street United Methodist Church in Reidsville, NC. The family requests that contributions be made to either of the two churches with which the deceased was associated or the Animal Humane Society.
