VELARDE -- Paul P. Velarde, 83, went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2010. A long time resident of Albuquerque, Paul was born June 29, 1926 in Gallup, NM to Leandro and Teresita (Valencia) Velarde. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary S. Velarde; and son, Harold Velarde. Paul is survived by his children, Bernice Martinez, Dolores Velarde, Judy Caruso and husband, Mark, Alma Terrazas, Gary Velarde, Wanda Garcia, Elizabeth Zawahri and husband, Chris, Christine Gonzalez, Joseph Velarde, Bernadette Terrazas and husband, Juan; sister, Dora Medrano and husband Joe, 26 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Paul enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, bowling, Lobo Basketball, Dallas Cowboys and loved his family especially all of his grandchildren, who were very special to him. He was a jokester who lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at San Jose Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be; Patrick Velarde, Dominic Velarde, Tommy Velarde, Carlos Velarde, Eugene Martinez, Paul Martinez, Jason Velarde, Gary Velarde, Jr., David Kesner, Abdul Zawahri and Mohammad Zawahri.
