ASHWILL -- Benjamin James Ashwill, age 26, passed away on January 22, 2010. He was a native New Mexican born on September 14, 1983 to Thomas and Donna Ashwill. As a child Ben developed a passion for soccer. His devotion to the game resulted in success on several teams including Classic FC Bandido's, Sandia High School Matadors, and the University of New Mexico Lobos. Ben graduated Cum Laude with a BBA in Finance from the University of New Mexico in 2007. Since then he's worked in construction and accounting. Ben was a kind and loving person, who could always be counted on as a friend, brother, son and uncle. His smile would light up a room and his personality was contagious. His passion for life and his memory will never be forgotten by those who loved him. Ben is survived by his parents, Thomas and Donna Ashwill of Albuquerque, his sisters, Brandi Clark and husband, Jimmy , and son Brody of Lubbock, TX and Tamara Bateson and husband, Jordan, and children Ava, Addison and Colby of Rio Rancho, NM. He is also survived by his paternal grandmother, Mary Lou Ashwill and maternal grandfather Don Dixon and wife, Connie, four aunts and four uncles; Kathy and Scott Tipton, Carol and Robb Hermes, Trish and Eddie Livingston, Vicki and Ruben Mirabal and seven cousins, Anna and Claire Hermes, Danny, Sara, and Josh Livingston and Justin and Arlene Mirabal. BROWN -- Paul Clifford Brown, "PC" or "Cliff", Born May 20, 1952 peacefully joined our Heavenly Father in his home on January 22, 2010. He was preceded in death by his father, Edward S. Brown Jr.; and his brother, Lawrence Brown. Cliff is survived by his mother, Betty C. Brown; and his daughter, Clarie S. Miller; and his grandchildren Ty and Shelby Miller. Cliff was a free spirit who loved the "island life" as he spent many years in Hawaii and the South Pacific Islands. Cliff had a love of animals and a special gift with horses, training and breaking them. He got his first horse at age ten, Lady and then an Appaloosa named Dutchess. Cliff grew up in Albuquerque and graduated from Highland High School where he enjoyed his life long friends and being the lead vocals in his band Ruby Throat and the Hummingbirds. He joined the Army out of high school and was very proud of his time spent serving his country in his nine years as a military police officer. Cliff was stationed in Hawaii where he fell in love with the island life. He had an affinity for the ocean and loved to surf. Cliff graduated from Eastern New Mexico in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in Communications and was a brother of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. Cliff worked for Federal Express for nine years before deciding to "island hop" through the South Pacific while substitute teaching as an American History teacher. Cliff was hit by a car in Guam in 1998 where he incurred a traumatic brain injury and since has been living in New Mexico and spent the last six months at home with his daughter and grandchildren. Cliff had God's love in his heart since birth and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He had a tremendous passion for music and concerts including Beach Boys, his favorite. Cliff had a zest for life and wonderful sense of humor and he will miss seeing his Dallas Cowboys play on Sundays. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday January 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church Chapel 215 Locust St. NE, with The Rev. Paul Debenport officiating. A reception will follow at the church. Cliff's interment will be at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date. BUNTEN -- Augusta Faye Bunten, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2010. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, James Bunten, Sr. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Caldwell Lopez and husband, Richard; son, James A. Bunten Jr. and wife Helen; and son, Edward L. Bunten; also by her granddaughter, Victoria Lopez; and three grandsons, Robert, David and Steven Lopez; two great-granddaughters; and her beloved dog, Lady. Augusta was born in Corbin, Kentucky in 1922 and lived in Miami, Florida where she graduated from Miami High School. She returned to Albuquerque where she worked for several Chevrolet dealerships and was a homemaker. She had a zest for life, quick wit, and a great sense of humor. BURGESS -- Paul J. Burgess SFC Ret. took a walk with the Lord on January 21, 2010 after a long battle with cancer. Paul was born on September 13, 1927 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth A. Whitney, his son CMSgt Paul D. Burgess and his wife Sherri Riley and their daughter, Carly Burgess, two nephews, David P. Griffiths, and his companion Anageline Doucet, and Thomas P. Griffiths, wife Doreen M. Thimot. He was preceded by his father, Fredrick J. Burgess, his mother Mary C. Doucette, brothers, Joseph T. Burgess and Neil J. Burgess and sisters, Ann M. Bonin of Little Brook, Nova Scotia and May M. Troendle of Somerville, Massachusetts. CHACON -- Victor Bernard Chacon, 40, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on January 12, 2010. Victor is survived by his mother, Katy Chacon; his sister, Valerie Chacon; his brother, Vincent Chacon; his fiancee, Carla Marquez; his Godsons, Darrien Chacon, and Aiden Henry Chacon; his nephew, Jacob Austin; his grandmother, Trinie Chacon; his aunt, Rosie Lopez; and many other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. EHLERT -- Howard Charles Ehlert, 27 year resident of Lake Van, Dexter, New Mexico, died Friday, January 22, 2010 at Kaseman Presbyterian Hospice in Albuquerque. He was 90, being born August 13, 1919 to Henry Albert Ehlert and Jeannette Fitzgerald Ehlert in Whiting, Indiana. He is survived by Esther Kallsen Ehlert, his wife of 49 years, by two children of a previous marriage to Georgine Schaaf Ehlert; daughter, Bette Jane Ehlert of Grants, and son, Kurt William Ehlert of Albuquerque; by daughter-in-law, Carolyn Detorie Ehlert; by four grandchildren: Allison Claire Ehlert of Albuquerque, Jeannette Rebecca Perkal of Chicago, Erich Thomas Ehlert of Los Angeles, and Elisabeth Rose Perkal of Albuquerque; and by companion "Nick", his last Labrador retriever. In 1938, he attended Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin. His education was cut short by WWII. He enlisted in the US Army, was attached to the Third Army Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC), and served his country in France, Belgium and Germany, during which time he received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After the war, he returned to Indiana and resumed his education at Franklin College where he became a brother of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and lettered for three years as quarterback of the Franklin Grizzlies. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. After graduation, he joined his father and uncle at Standard Oil in Whiting, Indiana. In 1957, he moved his family from Whiting/Highland, Indiana to Albuquerque, New Mexico in search of a healthier climate and a better quality of life. He found work with Amana Freezer Corporation, North American Van Lines and, finally, the Gas Company of New Mexico (formerly Southern Union Gas) where he remained for the next 23 years. During his career in marketing, he served three terms on the Board of the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and became the founder of the Executives' Association of Greater Albuquerque, Inc (EAGA) which organization he then served for many years as both officer and director. His greatest loves in life were his family, his dogs and the out-of-doors. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a marksman, a gun collector, a duck hunter, and a life-long owner and trainer of Labrador Retrievers. FAY -- Pearl A. Fay was born on July 16, 1919, in Huntley, NE. She took her flight from Albuquerque, NM to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, January 22, 2010. Pearl was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Leo M. Fay; parents, Earl and Fanny Schroder; and her sister, Minnie Anderbery. She is survived by her two daughters, Eileen Hunsley and husband, Ron of Belen, and Loretta Booth and husband, Daniel (Eddie) of Cedar Crest; grandchildren, Cheryl Lasiter, Ronda Hunsley, Laura and Henry Aragon, Vikki and Sam Wingerd, Randie Booth, and Rick Booth; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; brother, Verl Schroder and wife, Billie of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. KYSE -- Edith Kyse, 81, a resident of Rio Rancho since 1976, passed away on January 22, 2010. She is survived by five children, Barbara Thompson of Albuquerque, Robert Kyse of Rio Rancho, William Kyse and wife, Diane of Clifton, NJ, Beth Kukowski and husband, Guy of Albuquerque and Bonnie Smith of Rio Rancho; and brother, Clifford Gravel of Albuquerque. Edith was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Kyse in 2006. Edith was very active as a part of the planning and zoning committee in the early development of Rio Rancho. She was also a member of the Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce and was employed by the Rio Rancho Observer as well. LASUSKY -- John Joseph Lasusky was born on June 24, 1930 to William and Anna Lasusky, from Shenandoah, Pennsylvania passed away at home in Albuquerque on January 21, 2010 surrounded by his entire family. He is being survived by his loving wife of 53 years Lore Lasusky and their children, John J. Lasusky Jr. and Donnella Hanks, David and Patrizia Lasusky, and Donna Kay Lasusky and Robert Haag. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Ryan and Cayte Lasusky, Jeremy Lasusky, Samantha Lasusky and Fiance Javier Baca, Jessica Steele, Tarzan Joseph Lasusky, and his great grandson Aiden Steele. Our father served in the Korean and Vietnam War as a Master Sergeant, retiring front the Army after 25 years of service. He then went on to serve as a Lieutenant with UNM Police and Director of the UNM Parking and Transportation department for 22 years. MAGER -- Hy Mager, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning of natural causes. Hy is survived by his daughter, Karen Mager-Baker and husband Chuck; son, Steve Mager and wife, Lisa; three granddaughters, Lauren, Julianne, and Meghan; and his beloved dog Carmel. Born May 18, 1925 in New York City to Gussie and Louis Mager, Hy grew up in the bakery business. His family started the Garden Bakeries in New York and he worked as a baker and pastry chef for various resorts in the Catskill Mountains. Upon moving to Albuquerque, Hy and his late wife Doris (Dee) founded the original Cheesecake Factory in 1973. He loved the business and looked forward to coming in to work everyday. He was an extremely caring and giving individual and will be greatly missed by family, friends and associates. Hy and Doris are now reunited. MOXEY -- Elizabeth Moxey, 64, of Albuquerque passed away on January 21, 2010. She was born and raised in Las Vegas, New Mexico and was known as Bettye to friends and family. She and her beloved eloped and settled in San Diego, CA. where they remained for 30 years before returning to Albuquerque in 1995. Most recently, she was a member of the Red Hat Society and belonged to the Lava Ladies, Royal Rowdies, and Ding-bat clubs. Bettye Moxey was preceded in death by her parents, Dee and Mabel Bibb of Las Vegas, New Mexico. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, William Moxey of Albuquerque; daughter, Monique Moxey and husband Sam Polles of Jackson, Mississippi; brother, David Bibb and wife Mary Kay of Las Vegas; sister-in-law Nancy Wilson and husband Charles of Estancia; grandchildren Moxey and John Polles; 15 nieces and nephews, and 14 grandnieces and grandnephews. RENFROW -- Dorothy M. Renfrow, 89, a resident of Albuquerque since 1998, made her transition on Thursday, January 21, 2010. She was born and raised in Buffalo, NY and married Kenneth Renfrow of North Dakota in 1964. The Renfrow's were prominent farmers in North Dakota until their retirement. After relocating to Albuquerque to be closer to her family she enjoyed her time playing bridge, shopping and being with her family. She was a member of Sandia Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth, her sons John and Wayne. She is survived by her daughter Barbara Baird and husband Ron Baird; two grandsons, David and wife, Kathy, and Michael Horanburg; great-grandsons Michael, Brian and Kelly. SHEA -- John F. Shea, 56, passed away peacefully at home on January 22, 2010, surrounded by family, following a brief illness. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on December 26, 1953, John moved to Albuquerque in 1971 to attend college and lived most of his life in New Mexico since that time, most recently as General Manager of the Owl Cafe. Best known for his friendly and fun loving personality and entertaining stories, John had a wide circle of friends, both in Albuquerque and throughout the Northeast. John is survived by his brother, Dan Shea and wife Monica; his sisters, Carleen Sullivan and husband Brian and Lisa Salerno and husband Don; his Unc' Harold and auntie Gloria Martin; his cousins, Ski Martin and wife Vickie and Steve Martin and wife Cindy; and his nephews Dan Shea and wife Katrina and Ryan Shea, and Shamus and Brenden Sullivan. TAFOYA -- Genevieve "Veva" Tafoya, 66, went home to be with our Lord on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. A long time resident of Albuquerque, Genevieve was born November 28, 1943 in Gallup, NM and was preceded in death by her parents, Claudio and Arelia Padilla; husband, Steven R. Tafoya; her son, Tommy Martinez, Jr.; brother, Joey Trujillo; and special nephew, Douglas Flores. TAPIA -- Juanita Eloisa Tapia, 94, of Albuquerque, New Mexico went to meet our Lord on Friday evening at Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by members of her loving family. She was born at El Porvenir, New Mexico in 1915. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Felipe Tapia, Jr.; her mother and father, Carolina and Tomas Gallegos of Las Vegas; sister, Helen Garner and husband, Mike of Las Vegas; brother, Tony Gallegos and wife, Hafiza of Albuquerque; her daughters Clarita Tapia of Las Vegas, New Mexico, Edwina Segura of Rio Rancho; son, Eugenio Tapia of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Angelo Tapia, Victoria Pizarro, Carolyn McCall, Lori and Philip Salas; great grandchild, Angeli Madrid; sons-in-law Leo A. Ortega of Los Alamos, Joe McCall of Kentucky, Terry Howerton of California and Victor Pizarro of Albuquerque. Juanita had 11 children. Surviving are Carolyn Ortega of Albuquerque; Faye Whalen of Kentucky; Lucy Delgado and husband Albert of Las Vegas, New Mexico; Angie Salas and husband Manuel of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Mary Louise Stone and husband Randy of Thornton, Colorado; Rosemarie Howerton of Rio Rancho, Margaret Pizarro of Albuquerque, and Eduardo Tapia of Cheyenne, Wyoming. She is also survived by 33 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. After her husband died, she was left with six children to raise by herself. She moved to Albuquerque from Las Vegas in 1963 and worked at the Girls' Welfare Home until her retirement. She was a very loving mother. Her nickname was "Mama Goose." Juanita belonged to the Extension Club for many years and was their President for three years. She loved going to the Volcanes Senior Center. She also loved dancing, crafts, crocheting, music, going to the casino, and being with her family. For the last two years, she has lived with her daughter, Carolyn, in Albuquerque. VELARDE -- Paul P. Velarde, 83, went home to be with our Lord on Thursday, January 21, 2010. A long time resident of Albuquerque, Paul was born June 29, 1926 in Gallup, NM to Leandro and Teresita (Valencia) Velarde. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary S. Velarde; and son, Harold Velarde. Paul is survived by his children, Bernice Martinez, Dolores Velarde, Judy Caruso and husband, Mark, Alma Terrazas, Gary Velarde, Wanda Garcia, Elizabeth Zawahri and husband, Chris, Christine Gonzalez, Joseph Velarde, Bernadette Terrazas and husband, Juan; sister, Dora Medrano and husband Joe, 26 grandchildren; and 48 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Paul enjoyed fishing, gardening, camping, bowling, Lobo Basketball, Dallas Cowboys and loved his family especially all of his grandchildren, who were very special to him. He was a jokester who lived life to the fullest and will be missed by all whose lives he touched. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at San Jose Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
