MAGER -- Hy Mager, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1972, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning of natural causes. Hy is survived by his daughter, Karen Mager-Baker and husband Chuck; son, Steve Mager and wife, Lisa; three granddaughters, Lauren, Julianne, and Meghan; and his beloved dog Carmel. Born May 18, 1925 in New York City to Gussie and Louis Mager, Hy grew up in the bakery business. His family started the Garden Bakeries in New York and he worked as a baker and pastry chef for various resorts in the Catskill Mountains. Upon moving to Albuquerque, Hy and his late wife Doris (Dee) founded the original Cheesecake Factory in 1973. He loved the business and looked forward to coming in to work everyday. He was an extremely caring and giving individual and will be greatly missed by family, friends and associates. Hy and Doris are now reunited. Services will be held at Congregation B'nai Israel, 4401 Indian School RD. NE, 87110, on Monday, January 25, 2010 at 11:00 a.m., with Rabbi Arthur Flicker officiating. Shiva (Memorial) Services will be announced at a later date. Pallbearers are: Jim Miller, Ken Mager, Al Thomas, Paul Heatley, Dr. Jeff Sollins, Marshall Katz, Jack Zipper, Nick Bakas. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Randy Josephson, Paul Sandoval, Chad Tivis, Harry Shearer, Marvin Schumer, Duane Walker, and Leo Zenner.
