MARTINEZ -- Placido J. (Pop) Martinez, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on Monday, October 12, 2009, after a short illness. Mr. Martinez passed away with his daughter-in-law by his side that he loved very much. He was born in Chimayo, NM, and graduated from Menaul School. Mr. Martinez served in the U.S. Army where he received a Purple Heart. He is survived by his three sons and daughter, Robert Martinez of Ca., Benny Martinez and Joseph Martinez both of Albuquerque; and Joann Magana of Rialto, Ca., and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mr. Martinez will be missed by all of his family, particularly those that were in his life every day. Visitation and Rosary will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m., at the Riverside Funeral Home, 225 San Mateo Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. The viewing and funeral will be held at Riverside Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 19, 2009, and the interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Pallbearers will be Robert Martinez, Benny Martinez, Joseph Martinez, Benny Jr. Martinez, Joseph Ray Martinez and Phillip Magana.
