BALDWIN -- Winifred M. Baldwin (1920-2009) Winifred Baldwin passed away in peace on September 4. 2009. Known to friends and family as Winnie, she will be especially remembered for her devotion to her husband, children and grandchildren and for her love of reading and music. A long-time resident of Santa Fe, she had worked for many years as a realtor with Mares Realty and volunteered for the Museum Shop of the Palace of the Governors. A lifelong Catholic, Winnie attended St. Francis Cathedral. She was a supporter of the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival, the Santa Fe Opera, the Santa Fe Children's Museum, and Partners in Education. Born Winifred Mary Gould on March 29, 1920 in Ruislip, England to educators Cecelia Rimmer and Thomas Gould, she graduated first in her class from Our Lady's Convent High School for Girls in Amherst Park and attended St. Charles College in London, England prior to becoming an elementary schoolteacher. After the Second World War, she came to the United States on a Fulbright Teachers Exchange to the Albany Academy for Boys in Albany, New York. It was then that she met her future husband, George C. Baldwin, and decided to immigrate to the U.S. The couple married in New York City in 1952, and eventually settled in Schenectady, New York, where they raised a family with three children. Winnie and her husband moved to Santa Fe in 1977; they relocated to Albuquerque in March to be closer to immediate family. Winnie was predeceased by her brother, Thomas; and sister, Vera. Survivors include her husband, George; also son George and wife Kathleen of Albuquerque; son John and wife Carol of Jamestown, Rhode Island; and daughter Celia and husband Bruce Catania of Dobbs Ferry, New York. In addition, she is survived by seven grandchildren: Thomas, Anne, Andrew, Emily, Peter, Allison, and Benjamin. In lieu of flowers, Winnie had asked for memorial contributions to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. Her family also suggests support to nonprofit organizations dedicated to those suffering from macular degeneration or aphasia.
