MCDOWELL -- MARY JANE, 72, was born in August, 1936 in Oklahoma City and passed away in Albuquerque in June, 2009. Mary Jane was a teacher, one remembered fondly by hundreds of former students, those she taught as recently as earlier this year back to her beginning years in Houston in the late fifties. She supported children to be the best that they had it in themselves to be in their terms. Full of humor and surprises as well as lots of reading, social studies and math in her classrooms, every sort of student found a way to learn and succeed. Jane's friends remember her as a voracious reader and a boon companion: one with a great sense of humor ready to do something fun, always aware of the latest cosmetics and collector of great purses. She loved her Basset Hounds, the most recent, Chloe II who was adopted into a loving home. Jane leaves behind many friends in Albuquerque, Oklahoma City, Houston and Terra Haute, IN, the Chi Omegas from Oklahoma State, her dear sister-in-law, Ida McDowell of Houston, and her beloved godson, Jeremy Mallory of Chicago. Her friends will gather to remember and celebrate Jane in the near future. Memorial contribution can be made to the Animal Humane Association.
