MILLER -- Irene Hall Miller, 89, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2009 after a short bout with cancer. Irene was born on March 29, 1920 in Red Springs, Wisconsin to Herman and Fancies Hall. She was a woman of strong faith and has left us for a better place. When Irene married Roland Miller and his career with the Civil Service and when he took the opportunity of promotions, Irene would cheerfully pack-up and move their belongings to each new location which after his career included nine different states. Irene was very active in raising her four children, she was a leader in and "flew up" in Brownies, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and baseball leagues where she was often the loudest spectator. Irene loved to play golf and was a league bowler all her life. She competed in the Senior and National Olympics where she earned numerous ribbons. Irene loved to travel especially on cruise ships and visited many ports of entry, her favorite trips were to Alaska and New Zealand. She was a long time member of Christ Lutheran Church and the Haskell Club of New Mexico. Irene enjoyed small stakes gambling, which included handheld poker as well as nickel and quarter slot machines. Family gatherings and social gatherings often led to raucous games of liar's dice, where small wagers were made. Irene will be remembered by her children as always being there when needed, for her sense of humor, and for active life, for love of travel and her complete devotion to her entire family. She will be remembered for her generous spirit, her ability to always see the best in others and to mentor her children in love. She leaves behind a strong legacy for her family to enjoy.
