ATENCIO -- Eddie Leroy Atencio, 68, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on May 6, 2009. Mr. Atencio is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Georgia Atencio; his daughters, Louella Atencio, and Adella Atencio and companion George Rodriguez; his son, John Edward Torres; his granddaughter, Zoe Rose Rodriguez; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Atencio was preceded in death by his mother, Dolores Garcia; his sister, Jean Sears; his brother, Jackie Garcia; his uncle, Ralph Atencio; his nephew, Frank Sears, Jr.; and his grandparents, Adela and Telesfor Atencio. Mr. Atencio was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the Vietnam Era, serving in the Army 101st Airborne, he was a graduate of Menaul High School. Mr. Atencio enjoyed the outdoors and cherished his pet chihuahua, Mellie. Visitation will be Saturday, May 9, 2009 in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel, from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 3:00 p.m. Final visitation will be Monday in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel from 10:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Edwin Catholic Church, 2105 Barcelona Rd. SW, Father Bill Sanchez, presider. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John E. Torres, George Rodriguez, Tony Mirabal, Andrew Mirabal, Elroy Gonzales, and Leonard Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard D. Baca, Jonah Ortega, Rita Gonzales and Zoe Rose Rodriguez. Arrangements by: Gabaldon Mortuary 1000 Old Coors Dr. SW 243-7861
