SANCHEZ -- Jose Torres Sanchez "Che", was born September 23, 1919 in Ft. Defiance, Arizona. He passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 89. Jose was US Army Veteran who Honorably served his country during WWII. He was a longtime member of the V.F.W and the American Legion. Jose was preceded in death by his wife, Virgilia Sanchez; his parents, Jose and Elena Sanchez and by his daughter, Annie Ruth. Jose is survived by his sons and daughters: Kelly Sanchez and wife Mary Lou, Helen Sanchez, Jackie Sanchez and Tom, Richard Sanchez and wife Pauline, Clemente Sanchez and wife Georgia, Louie Sanchez, Florinda Armijo and husband Esequiel, Clorinda Brito and Ralph, Marilyn Medina and husband Ruben, Becky Hopinkah, Carolyn Sanchez and Jose's longtime companion, Petra Montano; 37 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; many other family members and friends who loved and will miss him. Services and visitation will be held at Our Lady of Light Catholic Church in Cubero, New Mexico. A Visitation will begin on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. with a Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 with US Army Honors. Pallbearers will be Daniel J. Sanchez, Clemente Sanchez Jr., Joseph Sanchez, William Hopinkah, Ruben Brito Jr. and Vincent Brito.
