LEEPER -- Toney Angela Leeper, age 76, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 18, 2009. She was born on June 13, 1932 to Juan and Angela Baca in Carrizozo, NM. She was picking cotton when she was only ten years old. Toney only went to the 9th grade before she dropped out to go to work to help her parents and got a job working at the hospital as a nurse in Carrizozo. She met our dad during the time he was stationed in Red Canyon. Mom and Dad were married on April 24, 1954 and had their first daughter in Carizozo and then moved to Iowa where dad was from. Three more daughters were born. Mom and dad then moved to Nebraska, where their first son was born, then moved to Albuquerque in 1962, where the remaining three children were born. Toney gave birth to eight children and worked very hard to care for us. She always made breakfast for us before going to school. Mom made homemade snacks for us for when we got home from school. Sometimes when we got to the corner we could smell the bread baking. Mom made the best homemade bread. She was always there for us. Toney spent her days doing laundry, washing diapers, cooking and waiting for us and dad to get home. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her children unconditionally, no matter what; they were all the same to her. Toney loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren just the same. We love you mom and you will be missed dearly. Toney is survived by her children, five daughters, Yvonne Montoya and husband Louie, Kathy Salazar and husband Robert of Los Lunas, NM, Virginia Baca, Debie Leeper-Baca and partner Evelyn Gallegos, Priscilla Gonzales, three sons, Sonny Leeper and wife, Ella, Darrell Leeper and wife, Bridgette and Brian Leeper; 17 grandchildren, Celia Lara, Andrea Castillo and husband Michael, Jesse Leeper, Adam Gallegos, Christopher Leeper, Stephen Leeper, Andre Leeper, Nathaniel Montoya, Andrew Ortiz, Marcos Perales, Chris Gallegos and wife Davery, Eva Leeper, Elena Spratford, Caleb Leeper, Dylan Leeper, Shelby Leeper, and Tyler Leeper; six great-grandchildren, Erin, Mathew, and Isaiah Castillo, Areyshaun Leeper, Dominic and Andrew Gallegos; brothers and sisters, Josephine Mirabal, Bea Walton and husband Bill, Rose Raney and husband Kenny, Joe Baca, Mona Masse and husband Stewart, Chapo Baca and wife Elena, Paul Baca, Juan Baca, and Regina Baca; sisters-in-law, Lettie Barnes, Lottie Kinney, Lena Madesen, and Lorriane Anshultz; brother-in-law, Leonard Leeper and wife Francis. Our mother loved us with her whole heart and soul and we were very lucky to be raised by her. She showed love, patience, kindness and an incredible giving nature to everyone she knew. She had numerous friends and special friends, Ernestine Silver, and Andy and Isabel Gallegos. Mom, you are forever in our hearts you are now with our Dad and peacefully at rest. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd., NE with the Rosary being recited following the visitation at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
