LARSON -- James Oliver "Larry" Larson, 94, of Albuquerque, passed away April 19, 2009 after a short illness. He was born in Los Angeles, CA to James and Mildred Larson. He had two sisters Kathryn and Rose. Larry served four years in the US Navy; briefly left to be a police officer, before returning to a career in the Navy. He was proud of his "mustang" career status, moving from an enlisted man to an officer and of his time on a "Four Stack" destroyer during WWII. Upon retirement from the Navy in 1956, he and his wife, Lois, relocated to Albuquerque where he managed a heavy hauling and steel erecting company, winning the National Heavy Haul of the Year award in 1964. He continued in the transportation industry until his retirement. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lois; three children, Jim of Albuquerque, Mark of Denver, and Deborah of Taos; nephew, Alan Kelly Jr.; grandchildren, Joshua, Jessie, Diana, and Kris, plus two great-grandchildren. A Memorial will be held Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano Rd. NW. Interment will be at a later date at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church or to a charity of choice.
