SHUGHART -- Nancy J. Shughart, 70, a long time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on March 16, 2009, in St. Vincent's Hospice in Indianapolis, IN after battling pancreatic cancer. She was born on October 31, 1938 in Darien, CT, and was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mary Alice Vaughan. Nancy was the widow of Lt. Cmdr. James N. Shughart, who died on May 16, 1971. Nancy was a graduate of Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, CO, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Colorado, where she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Following her graduation, Nancy worked for the Department of the Navy in Philadelphia, PA. In Albuquerque, she was a homemaker and worked for many years in the business office of West Mesa Pediatrics. She was actively involved in the formative years of AAGTS, the Albuquerque Association Of Gifted & Talented Students. She is survived by her three daughters, Abby (and husband Mike) Downs of Indianapolis, IN, Jennifer (and husband Volkmar) Schmidts of Bettendorf, IA, and Katie (and husband Rod) Crane of Winter Park, FL; nine grandchildren; and her brother, James Vaughan of Windsor, CO. Nancy was preceded in death by her brother, Peter Vaughan. A private Graveside Service was held on March 20, 2009 in Gettysburg National Cemetery, Gettysburg, PA.
