TOKUDA -- Seiyu "Dusty" Tokuda passed away unexpectedly on October 7, 2008 during a large gathering surrounded by relatives here and from Hawaii and Oregon. He was born in Ewa, HI, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and worked as a Field Service Representative for General Farebox (GFI) in the Chicago area until his retirement. He had been a resident of Albuquerque, NM, for the past 17 years, having retired a second time from his part-time job as a driver for Budget Car Rentals a year ago. His passion was horses and he did some volunteer work for a riding program with developmentally disabled individuals when he first moved to New Mexico, and attended almost every type of horse show and horse racing at the fairgrounds. Dusty was preceded in death by his parents, Nta and Ushigwa Tokuda, his brother, Seisuke "Red" Tokuda, and his sisters, Masako Kochi and Helen Candilasa. He is survived by his son, Timothy and his wife, Amie Tokuda, of Chandler, AZ; his former wife and very good friend, Nancy Tokuda of Yuma, AZ and her son Alan Lermer of Glenview, IL; his brothers, Bob and Sei Tokuda of Albuquerque, Seiko "Sam" Tokuda of San Pedro, CA, and Harry "Pecos" (Betty) Tokuda of Honolulu, HI, along with many nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews, many of whom were with him at the time of his death. Dusty also had several "coffee friends" at the McDonalds in Wal-Mart at San Mateo and Zuni. The family would like to express our gratitude to all the staff at New Heart, particularly Dr. McGuire, and the doctors and staff connected with Lovelace Health Program for their care and compassion. Per his wishes, cremation has taken place with no formal service, aside from a private gathering of his family.
