KELLEY -- Esther Kelley, 88, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Tuesday, October 2, 2008. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, George Kelley; brothers, Garfield Gutierrez of Moriarty and Hubert Gutierrez and wife, Patricia of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Beatrice Gutierrez of Prague, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Olivia Rodriguez; parents, Luis and Ercelia Gutierrez; sister-in-law, Rita Gutierrez and brother, Virgil Gutierrez. Esther was born May 12, 1920 in Raton, NM. After graduating from high school, she worked in Raton for several years and eventually moved to Albuquerque where she continued her work in the secretarial field. She met her husband, George, while he was in the Navy and stationed in Albuquerque. His career took them to many bases around the country and she was an active participant in the Navy Wives' Club. After George retired from the Navy they opened Kelley's Knit Shop in southern California and subsequently moved the business to Albuquerque. Esther was a gifted seamstress and she utilized this talent to create beautiful knit garments. She also gave knitting lessons to many of their customers. Esther enjoyed traveling and she and George spent their leisure time seeing the world on cruise ships. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 14, 2008, 9:00 a.m., at the Shrine of Saint Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE.
