TIBLIER -- Rev. Edgar Tiblier, S.J., departed this life in the early morning of September 17, 2008, at Our Lady of Wisdom Health Center in New Orleans. A native of New Orleans, Father Tiblier was born on September 11, 1925, and attended Holy Name of Jesus School and Jesuit High School before entering the Society of Jesus [the Jesuits] in Grand Coteau, LA, on August 14, 1943. After professing his first vows, Father Tiblier studied at Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL, and St. Mary's College in Kansas before being ordained a Roman Catholic priest on June 13, 1956, at St. Joseph Chapel on Spring Hill's campus. While Father Tiblier served in the educational ministry of the Jesuits in Dallas, New Orleans, and Tampa, most of his life as a priest was given to parish work. He ministered at parishes in Albuquerque, NM; San Antonio, TX; Shreveport, LA; Mobile, AL; Corpus Christi, TX; Lafayette, LA; Baton Rouge, LA; and New Orleans, LA. Moreover, from 1970-1981, Father Tiblier was among the New Orleans Province Jesuits serving the Church in Brazil. Father Tiblier is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney Louis Tiblier and Aline Bozonier Tiblier, as well as by his brothers, Sidney, Fernand, and Thomas, and his sister, Mrs. Sarita Staehle. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Evelyn Marie Hoffman, and by many nieces and nephews and their children. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 6363 St. Charles Ave. in New Orleans. Interment will follow at the Jesuit Cemetery in Spring Hill College in Mobile, AL. In recognition of and thanksgiving for the generous priestly service of Father Tiblier donations are requested for the education of young Jesuits and for the care of elder Jesuits; donations may be sent to "The Jesuits"; 710 Baronne St. Ste.
