RIGLER -- Gerald Leo Rigler, was ultimately healed of the disease which he endured for so long on Monday, March 31, 2008, passing peacefully at home with his family by his side. Gerald was born August 28, 1940, and grew up in Guthrie County, IA, a farm boy with strong values and principles. After graduating from Guthrie Center High school, he attended Drake University, earning a B.A. and M.A. in biology. He then joined the Peace Corps and served for two years in Uganda, Africa, teaching math and science at a boys' school. In 1967, following his Peace Corps service, Gerald and his new bride came to New Mexico for graduate studies at the University of New Mexico, where he earned his Ph.D. and did post-graduate work in physiology. He had always thought he would like to own his own business, however, and so in 1978, Gerald and Lauri bought Collette's Flower Shop, which they operated successfully until his health no longer permitted. Gerald is survived by Lauri, his wife of 40 years; daughter, Andie Rigler; son, Brennen Rigler his wife, Tina; and children, Alexis and Dylan; mother, Marie Rigler; brothers, Larry and Wilson Rigler; sister, Roma Stetzel; and several cousins. Gerald was a kind-hearted man with a droll wit and a quiet strength, and he will be cherished and missed by all whose lives he touched. Celebration of Life services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2008, 2:00 p.m., at Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd. NE.
