Born 1924 in St. Paul MN to immigrant parents, Felice and Luigia Terrile Bacigalupo, she excelled in academics at College of St. Catherine (BA, magna cum laude, 1946) and University of New Mexico (MS, 1975). She loved to garden and cultivated roses and perennials wherever she lived. Jean stayed intellectually active throughout her life, taking classes in Italian, Gaelic, and German, pursuing studies in literature, theology, and art, and developing her talent for drawing. She traveled several times to Italy and Ireland, where she forged connections with her cousins and those of her Irish-American husband. In 1998 after John's death, she returned to Minnesota to be with her family.
