JOHNSTON -- Laurence Reid Johnston was born May 14, 1926 in Creede, Colorado and passed away February 5, 2008 at St. John Healthcare Center. Reid was our beloved husband, dad, brother, grandpa, uncle, and friend and he will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Buster and Edith (Wallin) Johnston and his brother, Bill Johnston. Reid is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Albuquerque; two daughters, Judy (Rob) Myers of Colorado Springs, CO and Jackie (Michael) Miller of Albuquerque; his sister, Betty (Jack) Ashley of Villa Grove, CO; five granddaughters, Lindsey Myers and Kristin Myers of Colorado Springs, CO, Jessica Balding, USAF, Eglin AFB, FL, Michelle Miller and Maya Miller of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Jo (Pete) Benson of Salida, CO; sister-in law, Kathryn (Hugh) Gillum of Waco TX; and six nieces and nephews; 11 great-nieces and -nephews; and one great-great-nephew and one great-great-niece. Reid graduated from high school in Saguache, Colorado, was a Signalman in the U.S. Navy in World War II serving in the Pacific, and graduated from Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado with a degree in accounting. He married Carolyn Davison on June 14, 1949 in Alamosa, Colorado and they have been married 58 years. Reid was in the mining industry in Telluride and Bonanza, CO and later worked in the wholesale lumber industry in Colorado and New Mexico. He has been a resident of Albuquerque for 35 years and was a loving husband and father, kind and gentle to the end. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of New Mexico, 9500 Montgomery Blvd NE, Suite 209. The family would like to thank the Presbyterian Hospital nurses and doctors, St John Healthcare Center and Ambercare Hospice for all their care and support.
