ORBAN -- Eugene Orban, 1917 - 2007. Eugene Orban passed away December 16, 2007 at the age of 89. He was born in Courtland, Virginia, son of Hungarian immigrants Josef and Anna Orban. He lived in West Virginia before moving to Unionville, Michigan in 1932. During World War II he was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant. Married to Marjorie Myerholtz in 1947, he had ten children and a grandchild. Eugene was a farmer, and later operated a general store and coal business in North Morenci, Michigan. After retirement, he lived in Prescott, Arizona, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Grove City, Ohio. He taught himself to build furniture, and often drew his own plans or worked from a photograph. Many of his handcrafted tables, chests and roll-top desks are in family homes throughout the country. Eugene enjoyed gardening, visiting his friends at Bear Canyon Senior Center, and especially music and dancing. Eugene is survived by his wife, and children James, Liz, Susan, Thomas, Deborah, Rebecca, Cecelia, John, and Paul Orban and Margaret Walker. He is also survived by siblings Lillian Duke, Louis Orban and Emily DeWolf. He was preceded in death by grandson James Clay Orban, brothers Joseph, Frank, Charles, Robert and Steven Orban, and sisters Mary Vargo, Anna Penta, and Irene Franks. A memorial service will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery January 28, 2008.
