TAYLOR -- Loren Ormel Taylor, born June 16, 1922 in Handley TX to Mattie and Samuel Taylor, left home for his final trip January 10, 2008. He had wandered and sought adventure early in life playing in the woods and creek bottoms in Ft. Worth, and reading about famous adventurers and naturalists. He longed to visit all the places he read about in the Book of Knowledge. He enlisted in the Navy November 27, 1942 serving in the South Pacific and Guam, and attending OCTS at UT in Austin. He moved to Albuquerque after WWII and was briefly married to Dorothea Cauldwell. He joined IBEW 611 where he was deeply involved in Union activities for many years, working as an officer, business agent and labor organizer throughout the state of NM. He married Betty Montgomery in 1950 and raised four children. He left field work in 1969 to become a sales rep for Electric Supply, retiring in 1983. In retirement he returned to school, wrote "Post Middle Age Power", collaborated on other books, worked as a fire watch tower lookout, an electrician and traveled extensively. He married Jill Schneider in 2005. He is survived by Jill; children Betty, Tracy, Loren, and Dirk; sisters, Mattie and Sue; 13 grandchildren; and 28 great- and great-great-grandchildren. Memorial Service at the UNM Alumni Chapel 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008. Please remember Loren through his love of the natural world and his efforts to protect the vulnerable and unfortunate.
